Student Representative

A Student Representative (Sturep for short) at KU Leuven is a student volunteer who acts as a bridge between the students and the university's faculty, administration, and governing boards. It's a Volunteer role that works on a hybrid basis, making work of things remotely and together with other Stureps on campus. Stureps are mainly a part of the POC's What They Do Voice Student Concerns: Bring feedback, problems, and suggestions from fellow students to official university meetings. Participate in Decision-Making: Sit on advisory and policy boards, such as Programme Committees (POC), Faculty Councils, and the central Education Council. Defend Student Interests: Help shape policies on education quality, exams, diversity, and student facilities. Levels of Representation Programme Level: Representatives (often called education reps) deal with specific courses or degree programmes via bodies like the POC. Faculty Level: Representatives sit on Faculty Councils or boards to discuss faculty-wide rules. University-Wide Level: Overarching student councils like Stura KU Leuven coordinate representatives to speak at the highest governing levels of the university. Qualifications Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with students, faculty, and staff. Clear and professional communication skills, including the ability to speak and write effectively in group and individual settings. Ability to prepare and deliver engaging presentations to diverse audiences. Interest or background in education, student affairs, or academic policy. Comfortable using social media to inform, engage, and mobilize the student community. Ability to work collaboratively in committees and independently manage responsibilities. Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple meetings, tasks, and deadlines. Enrollment in or familiarity with social sciences or related fields is an asset. Motivation to advocate for student interests and contribute to high-quality education.
