Phrenos is looking for a Communications Officer to join our communications team in Brussels.
We are looking for someone with 2–4 years of experience who combines strong writing and organisational skills with a genuine passion for communications. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys turning ideas into content, managing several moving pieces at once and taking ownership of their work.
Above all, we are looking for someone who brings ideas, recommendations and solutions to the table. You should be comfortable working autonomously, making sensible decisions and knowing when an issue needs to be escalated.
About Phrenos
Phrenos is a Brussels-based communications and events agency working with European institutions, international organisations, associations and purpose-driven organisations.
Our multidisciplinary and multilingual team develops and delivers communication strategies, digital campaigns, content, social media, websites, publications, stakeholder engagement activities and events. Much of our work involves translating complex policy topics into communications that are clear, engaging and relevant to different audiences.
As part of our communications team, you would work across several projects and policy areas, collaborating closely with colleagues, clients, designers, web developers and other partners.
What you’ll do
Your responsibilities will include:
• managing editorial and content planning across several projects;
• managing social media channels, from editorial planning and scheduling to community management and live event coverage;
• drafting, editing and proofreading website articles, interviews, newsletters, social media posts and institutional content;
• supporting the development and implementation of communication strategies and campaigns;
• coordinating content production and approval processes with clients, colleagues and suppliers;
• supporting communication around conferences, workshops and other events;
• monitoring digital communication activities and contributing to analytics, performance reporting and annual reports;
• updating websites and working with content management systems;
• coordinating several projects, deliverables and deadlines simultaneously;
• proactively identifying communication opportunities, potential issues and possible solutions. What we’re looking for You have 2–4 years of professional experience in communications, ideally within an EU institutional, public affairs, international or similarly complex environment. Must-haves
• Excellent written and spoken English and French.
• Strong writing and editing skills across web, social media, newsletters and institutional content.
• Hands-on experience with social media management, including editorial planning, scheduling and live coverage.
• Strong organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage several projects and deadlines in parallel.
• Ability to work autonomously, take ownership of tasks and flag issues early.
• Good client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and confidence working within approval and validation processes.
• Confidence using standard digital communication tools, CMSs and social media platforms.
• A genuine passion for communications and a practical, solution-oriented mindset.
• A reliable, proactive and collaborative approach. Nice to have Any of the following would be an advantage:
• previous experience working on EU institutional or EU-funded projects;
• experience contributing to communication strategies, campaigns and annual reporting;
• familiarity with web and social media analytics and communication KPIs;
• experience with newsletter and scheduling tools such as Brevo, Kontentino, Planable or similar;
• experience with event communications and live social media coverage;
• knowledge of EU affairs, sustainability, agriculture, environment or related policy areas;
• another EU language;
• basic visual-content skills, such as working with Canva or briefing designers.
