BI Data Engineer

We are looking for a Senior BI Data Engineer with extensive expertise in Business Intelligence, data engineering, data warehousing, reporting architectures, and ETL/ELT pipelines to join our team in international digital transformation and research/innovation data management initiatives. The role involves gathering and analyzing complex business requirements, designing modern BI and analytics architectures, and developing robust data pipelines, data models, and data mart components across heterogeneous data sources. The specialist will lead data warehouse migration strategies, optimize performance, physical design, and capacity planning, and build interactive dashboards and visualizations to empower evidence-based decision-making. Additionally, the engineer will execute data transformation, reconciliation, automated data-quality controls, unit testing, and technical documentation. In close collaboration with business stakeholders, policy leads, and cross-project technical teams, the specialist will bridge the gap between business needs and high-performing technical solutions. The position requires strong expertise in SQL, data visualization principles (including semiotics), advanced ETL/ELT orchestration, and semantic layer modeling, as well as hands-on experience with data querying technologies and exposure to distributed/NoSQL concepts. ⭐ WHAT WE HAVE FOR YOU? 🚩 Remote work model (far-site, with occasional presence in Brussels up to 5 days per quarter). ⏰ Flexible

REQUIREMENTS:
Educational level &

Experience:
• EQF Level 7 (Master's degree or 5 years of higher education).
• Minimum 15 years of professional IT experience.
• Proven track record in BI and data engineering projects, supported by concrete examples of deliverables, roles, and measurable results. Languages:
• Minimum B2 level in English or French (spoken and written). TECHNICAL & FUNCTIONAL

EXPERIENCE:
• Architecture & Strategy: Modern BI and analytics architecture design, data warehouse migration strategy, physical database design, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
• Data Warehousing & Modeling: Enterprise Data Warehousing (EDW), data marts, dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, semantic layers, and BI dataset management.
• Integration & ETL/ELT: End-to-end data pipeline development, data integration from heterogeneous sources, data transformation, and automated reconciliation.
• Reporting & Visualizations: Advanced BI dashboarding, evidence-based reporting frameworks, analytical storyboards, and data visualization principles (including semiotics).
• Data Quality & Testing: Data validation, reconciliation, anomaly detection, data quality frameworks, and unit testing for data/BI solutions.
• Stakeholder Alignment: Translating business and policy requirements into technical implementations, cross-project dependency management, and technical/user documentation. TECHNOLOGIES &
