Job Description
Ashoka's Participation Hub works at the intersection of civic engagement, democracy, and systems change. In a moment of democratic fragility and growing civic disengagement across Europe and beyond, the Hub drives bold initiatives
- including the Reimagine Democracy Challenge
- and supports Ashoka Fellows who are building the next generation of democratic participation. The candidate must be based in Belgium 👤 Report to Yannick Fischer, Participation Hub coordinator 🎓 Learning offer: Trainings on communications, social entrepreneurship, systems change, civic leadership, democracy, and venture We're looking for a creative, curious communicator to help us map the Ashoka Fellows working on democracy and tell their stories in ways that inspire action. This is a rare opportunity to engage directly with a global network of social innovators tackling one of the most urgent challenges of our time. STORYTELLING & COMMUNICATIONS (30%) Craft compelling stories about Fellows' work for social media (LinkedIn, Instagram), newsletters, and the website Develop content that connects local Fellow innovations to the bigger democratic renewal narrative Support the production of visual content (graphics, short videos) using Canva or similar tools Contribute and update the Participation Hub website and external communication materials Help maintain a consistent, impactful communication rhythm across channels FELLOW MAPPING & RESEARCH (40%) Map Ashoka Fellows working on democracy, civic participation, and citizen agency
- across Europe and globally Research Fellows' work, impact, and innovations to build a living knowledge base for the Hub Identify connections, trends, and story angles across the network Support the team in curating a pipeline of Fellows for events, partnerships, and external communications COMMUNITY & EVENTS SUPPORT (30%) Support the organisation of Participation Hub events and Fellow convenings Help coordinate online and in-person gatherings and follow up with participants Attend events as an Ashoka ambassador Volunteer Logistics Estimated hours required per week: 23 to 38 (flexible) The estimated duration of the project is: 3-6 months This position requires being on-site periodically in Brussels Belgium but also allows for some work to be completed virtually The office can provide amenities to volunteers such as: Local travel expenses Language Requirements English Desired Skills And Experience Strong writing and storytelling skills in English Proficient with social media platforms: LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube Familiar with design tools: Canva, InDesign, or similar Genuine interest in democracy, civic participation, and social innovation Curious, autonomous, and proactive — able to find the story in complex topics Comfortable working in an international, distributed team Experience with research, journalism, or policy communications is a bonus Apply here and send your CV and links to any writing samples or social media content you've created to ahoare@ashoka.org
