Williamson County Government is seeking a Residential Property Appraiser to join the Property Assessor's Office.
This position conducts field inspections and collects property data used to determine residential property values for tax assessment purposes. This role ensures property data is collected, verified, and maintained in accordance with state and local requirements, supporting equitable taxation and public transparency.
What You’ll Do
- Exercises judgment in identifying property characteristics that impact valuation.
- Conducts field inspections of residential properties to collect data on construction, condition, and improvements
- Measures structures, documents characteristics, and maintains photographic records
- Prepares and updates property record cards used in valuation calculations
- Identifies discrepancies in property data and routes corrections appropriately
- Interprets and applies applicable state and local appraisal and assessment regulations
- Provides assistance to property owners, contractors, and the public regarding property data, assessments, and appeal processes
- Maintains current records and participates in ongoing training to remain compliant with appraisal standards Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic understanding of appraisal principles and property valuation methods
- Knowledge of residential construction types and materials
- Ability to collect and document detailed field data accurately
- Ability to learn and utilize appraisal and property record systems
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar software
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
- Effective communication skills, including ability to explain processes to the public
- Ability to interact professionally in both field and office environments Education & Experience High school diploma or GED required; three (3) to six (6) months of related experience preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Licenses & Certifications Valid Tennessee driver’s license with insurability required. Additional certifications may be required and supported through ongoing training programs.
