Would you like to help shape the computer vision technologies of tomorrow? As a Researcher in the Vision Team, you’ll be working entirely in-house on research and development. You’ll explore new techniques, set up experiments and ensure that what appears in the scientific literature today becomes practical knowledge for our team tomorrow.
## About Vintecc's Vision Team
Vintecc is driving industrial innovation with AI and bespoke software. We have over 70 colleagues in Roeselare (head office) and Ghent.
The Vision Team equips machines and processes with visual intelligence: object recognition and optical sorting, real-time tracking, volume scanning and production measurements. Whilst our Vision Engineers are implementing these solutions for clients, you’ll be looking further ahead.
### The job
As a researcher on the Vision Team, you’ll carry out fundamental research as part of our R&D programmes, for example with VLAIO funding or in collaboration with universities and research institutions. Your findings will be applied by your fellow engineers in client projects, meaning your research delivers direct, practical results. This allows you to focus entirely on the research itself, whilst your colleagues lead the client projects.
### What will you be doing?
- You keep abreast of the latest developments in computer vision and deep learning and assess what is of value to the industry.
- You carry out research within ongoing R&D projects, focusing on topics such as synthetic data, 3D deep learning, object detection and tracking, and models on edge hardware.
- You will design experiments, thoroughly test new methods and objectively evaluate the results.
- You will clearly document your findings in technical reports and project deliverables.
- You will help draft new R&D project proposals.
- You will share your knowledge with the team through demos, validation using project data, internal sessions or publications. ### Who are we looking for?
- A PhD in computer vision, AI or a related field is preferred. A Master’s degree in engineering, computer science or AI with demonstrable research experience is also acceptable.
- In-depth knowledge of computer vision and deep learning (e.g. CNNs, transformers, detection and segmentation).
- You use Python, NumPy, PyTorch and OpenCV to carry out experiments.
- An inquisitive, critical mindset: you set up experiments yourself and are not afraid to question results.
- You enjoy working with focus and independently on a clearly defined research question.
- You are a good communicator: you explain your results clearly to colleagues, both verbally and in writing, in both Dutch and English. Desirable (not essential):
- Experience with synthetic data, simulation or rendering (e.g. Blender, Unity, Omniverse).
- Experience with 3D vision, depth cameras or multispectral imaging.
- Publications or experience with Flemish or European research projects ### What do
