Job description
Positions are available for a highly motivated PhD student and for a Postdoc who wish to join the Laboratory of Cancer Epigenetics headed by Prof. François Fuks (ULB-Free University of Brussels, Belgium). The research goal will be the analysis of transcriptomic and epigenomic changes (e.g. DNA methylation, histone and RNA modifications) that arise in cancers. Particularly the analysis of next generation sequencing data concerning novel epigenetic modifications, which our lab is investigating, will also be one of the main challenging tasks of the candidate (Delatte et al., *Science 2016,* Jeschke et al.\_ Nat Cancer 2021, *Ma et al.

* Cell 2025…\_).. He/she will also participate in several side projects with high impact factor publication potential.
The host lab is running a Next Generation Sequencing platform and is part of the ULB-Cancer Research Center (U-CRC), providing a high-profile scientific environment. The candidate will join other experienced bioinformaticians working on transcriptomics and epigenomics. Starting date is flexible. Profile For the PhD position, candidates should hold a master’s degree, while candidates for the postdoctoral position should hold a PhD, in bioinformatics, bioengineering, biomedical sciences, or a related field. Proficiency in statistics and programming, particularly in R and/or Python and BASH scripting is required. Candidates with a background in engineering or computer science may also be considered, provided they demonstrate strong interest and knowledge in biology. Experience with sequence data, genome-wide datasets (e.g., ChIP-seq, RNA-seq) is required and previous analysis of large-scale datasets would be considered an asset. The successful candidate should have strong organizational skills, an interest in interdisciplinary research and excellent scientific writing and presentation skills. They should be able to work independently while also contributing effectively to a collaborative research environment. Close interaction with biologists in the laboratory will be essential to the success of the project. Therefore, a genuine interest in biology and clinical research, as well as a willingness to engage with biological questions, is required.
