Belgium 📅 Contract Duration: 15 Months 💰 Daily Rate: €300–€450/day 🗣️ Dutch: Native-level proficiency (Mandatory) 🗣️ English: Active listening and good comprehension skills 📄 Engagement: Extra-Muros / External Contracting We are currently looking for an experienced Test Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity in Belgium, working on an ongoing backend project. The main objective of this role is to strengthen the existing Quality Assurance (QA) process by identifying testing gaps, managing testing debt, improving test coverage, and ensuring that the system meets the required functional and quality standards. We are looking for someone who can go beyond executing test cases and actively contribute to improving the overall testing strategy, reviewing requirements, identifying system discrepancies, and collaborating with development and business teams. 🔹 What Will You Be Responsible For? 1. Testing Debt Management & QA Improvement
- Analyse the existing test coverage of backend systems and identify gaps in the current testing process.
- Review existing automated tests and identify areas that require improvement.
- Identify, document, and develop action plans to resolve testing debt.
- Review functional requirements and analyse whether they are clear, complete, and testable.
- Assess the testability of backend services, batch processes, and other system components.
- Identify discrepancies between business requirements, actual system behaviour, and test cases.
- Work with stakeholders and development teams to improve overall test quality. 2. Functional Testing & Agile Activities
- Review functional and technical analysis documents.
- Design, write, and maintain detailed test cases.
- Execute test cases and analyse the results.
- Review user stories from a functional testing perspective.
- Review automated test cases and ensure adequate test coverage.
- Collaborate with developers and test automation engineers to build automated regression test suites. 3. Test Strategy & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Define, present, and manage the testing strategy.
- Prepare and maintain test reports, including progress on testing debt.
- Coordinate test environments and ensure testing resources are available.
- Work closely with project managers, test coordinators, developers, and business analysts.
- Coach developers on test automation and analysts on improving testability.
- Ensure alignment with the organisation's overall QA and quality standards. 🔹 Technical Skills & Tools Candidates should have experience or familiarity with the following:
- Test Management: TestLink
- Project & Issue Management: Jira
- Documentation: Confluence
- Test Automation: SOAPUI, REST Assured, JUnit, Spring Boot Test, Postman
- Development Practices: Continuous Integration (CI), Test-Driven Development (TDD)
- Programming Knowledge: Basic Java and SQL
- Modelling: UML / BPMN
- Version Control: Git / SVN Certification: ISTQB Foundation or Advanced certification will be an added advantage. 🔹 Candidate Profile
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, QA processes, and testing practices.
- Hands-on experience in test case design, test execution, and test coverage analysis.
- Experience identifying testing gaps and improving existing QA processes.
- Understanding of backend testing and test automation.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
