Job description
The ULC collection is one of 7 decentralized public biological resource centres integrated within the Belgian Coordinated Collections of Microorganisms (BCCM) (http://bccm.belspo.be/). BCCM runs a multi-site ISO 9001 quality management system. The ULC collection is specialised in cyanobacteria (http://bccm.belspo.be/about-us/bccm-ulc). One curator and two technicians are working for the collection. Your

responsibilities:
As manager of the BCCM/ULC culture collection, you will ensure the efficient operation and continued development of the collection. Your responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the administrative, technical, and scientific activities of the BCCM/ULC culture collection.
- Maintaining and continuously improving the ISO-certified Quality Management System (QMS).
- Managing the collection's infrastructure, laboratory environment, and operational resources.
- Supporting the collection team with daily collection activities and client interactions, which requires on-site presence. Learning their work to be able to replace them in core activities.
- Fostering a customer-oriented culture and ensuring timely, professional interactions with our clients.
- Contributing to the development of a portfolio of basic/applied research within the culture collection based on external funding sources, as well as scientific services to the customer community.
- Developing research activities aligned with the missions of BCCM/ULC and the host laboratory. Research activities represent approximately 25% of the position but may vary with the needs.
- Actively participating in the day-to-day working of the overall BCCM consortium and its working groups, including regular contacts with the managers of the other BCCM collections

Your profile

- A Master degree in Biology, or related life sciences discipline.
- Experience in the isolation, cultivation, handling and/or preservation of microorganisms; experience with cyanobacteria or algae is an asset.
- Experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and the use of a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is highly desirable.
- A very strong interest in coordination, team management and organisational responsibilities; previous experience in these areas is an advantage.
- Excellent communication and relational skills.
- Good knowledge of written and spoken French and English.
- A collaborative mindset combined with proactivity, reliability, professional integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility.

1. A temporary contract of 12 months; a performance evaluation will be conducted after the first 3 months. 2. Your remuneration will be determined according to official salary scales of the University based on your experience. Note that the budget does not allow in principle for a post-doctoral salary scale.
