Internship Proposal – Circular Economy & Sustainable

* Description: Mazda Motor Logistics Europe is committed to advancing sustainability within its logistics and supply chain operations. Packaging represents a key lever for reducing environmental impact, and adopting circular economy principles is an essential part of our roadmap. This internship will contribute to both strategic and technical dimensions. Key Objectives & Tasks
- Assess the environmental footprint of automotive products and components using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies.
- Quantify greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the product life cycle, identifying carbon hotspots from raw material extraction to manufacturing and logistics.
- Develop and apply Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) methodologies to support carbon accounting and sustainability reporting.
- Evaluate candidate materials based on:
- Embodied carbon and environmental impact
- Circularity and recyclability
- Cost and industrial feasibility
- Supply chain resilience and availability.
- Assess the implications of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) on raw material sourcing, supplier emissions, embedded carbon, and future reporting obligations.
- Investigate the requirements of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) , including product sustainability requirements, lifecycle performance, material efficiency, and Digital Product Passport readiness.
- Benchmark best practices in product sustainability, carbon accounting, and low-carbon material innovation within the automotive industry. Profile & Requirements
- Enrolled in (or recently graduated from) a Master's or advanced Bachelor's programme in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemistry, Sustainability Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of materials science, product engineering
- Interest in Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), greenhouse gas accounting, carbon reporting, and sustainable product development.
- Familiarity with—or willingness to develop expertise in European sustainability legislation, particularly CBAM and ESPR .
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Good command of English (written & spoken).
- Self-motivated and able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
