About the role

Our client is a leading insurance company in Belgium, looking for a Senior Functional Designer / Functional Analyst to join its Life Insurance IT organisation.

You will work on critical applications supporting the Life Insurance business, covering areas such as new contract subscription, contract changes, tariffs, management activities, fund and reserve calculations, premiums, claims and settlements.

This is a hands-on functional role combining business analysis, IT solution design, testing and coordination with technical teams. You will work closely with Business stakeholders, Project Managers, developers and testing teams to translate business needs into robust IT solutions.

Your responsibilities

• Analyse high-level business and functional requirements and translate them into structured IT solutions.

• Design functional solutions covering user interfaces, business logic and database architecture.

• Follow up the implementation of your functional designs and ensure alignment with business requirements.

• Define and prepare functional and integration test cases and test solutions before delivery.

• Work closely with Business stakeholders to ensure that solutions effectively meet their needs.

• Coordinate with technical designers and developers throughout implementation.

• Work autonomously with the IS Project Manager to define scope, milestones and priorities.

• Monitor progress and communicate status, risks and issues to relevant stakeholders.

• Review COBOL source code when required and write SQL queries for analysis and investigation.

• Support the stability and operability of applications by analysing production incidents and coordinating corrective actions.

• Contribute to continuous improvement and support project leaders throughout project delivery.

Requirements

Your profile

• 5+ years of experience as a Functional Analyst / Functional Designer, ideally in a banking or insurance environment.

• Proven experience as a Lead Functional Analyst or in a senior functional analysis role.

• Strong experience in IT solution design, ideally on large-scale applications or projects.

• Experience with the development and maintenance of administrative IT systems.

• Strong understanding of COBOL Micro Focus and SQL Server.

• Ability to understand technical discussions and effectively interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Experience with functional analysis, functional design and testing.

• Knowledge of web-based client/server systems with a Micro Focus COBOL / SQL Server backend is a strong plus.

• Experience with batch processing and/or COBOL/SQL programming is an advantage.

• Knowledge of Agile and Waterfall methodologies is a plus.

• Experience in Life Insurance, contract management, claims or financial processes is highly valued.

• Master’s degree in IT/scientific field, or Bachelor’s degree with significant technical analysis experience.

• 🇫🇷 French – good level, a plus

Start date: ASAP / according to availability
Location: Brussels
Work model: Hybrid – 2 days/week onsite
Duration: 12 months, with potential extension
