Streaming Data Engineer

As a Data Engineer in the DPG Network Area, you leverage the daily reach of millions of readers and viewers on our online platforms as a competitive advantage by stitching together user interactions and building real-time profiles across our entire digital ecosystem.

You build cloud-based streaming data pipelines and its underlying infrastructure. In short: you live up to our principle You Build It, You Run It.

How will you make a difference?

Design & Build Event-Driven Services: Design and implement scalable streaming applications using Apache Kafka and Kafka Streams, applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) to model bounded contexts for identity stitching and user profiling.

Lead the Batch-to-Streaming Migration: Migrate legacy Spark batch processing pipelines into real-time, event-driven streaming applications, reducing latency from hours to milliseconds.

Handle High Scale & Throughput: Optimize data pipelines capable of processing terabytes of event data daily with low latency, high availability, and strong fault tolerance.

Deploy & Operate on AWS/EKS: Own your applications end-to-end, deploying microservices to Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) using modern CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and cloud-native observability.

Collaborate & Mentor: Partner with stakeholders, privacy specialists, fellow developers to translate complex business domains into clean, event-driven domain models.

Your must-have knowledge and experience

Experience implementing highly available and scalable big data solutions

In depth knowledge of at least one cloud provider, preferably AWS

Proficiency in languages such as Scala, Python or Java specifically in the context of streaming data workflows

Experience with Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines

Understanding of modern software engineering best practices

Experience with Domain-driven design

DevOps mindset

You see the value in a team and enjoy working together with others, also with techniques like pair-programming

You either have an AWS certification or are willing to achieve AWS certification within 6 months (minimum: AWS Certified Associate)

Nice to have knowledge

Experience building highly automated infrastructures

Experience with Kubernetes. Expertise in designing, analysing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems

Define and deploy monitoring, metrics, and logging systems, and automated security controls

Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with strong communication skills

Familiarity with functional programming principles
