Functional Analyst Data

Project context

We are looking for a Functional Analyst with strong experience in data and a background in banking or finance. (Knowledge of Credit Risk is a plus)

Key responsibilities

As a Functional Analyst, you will:

• Gather, clarify and challenge business requirements in collaboration with users and stakeholders.

• Analyse existing systems, data structures and data flows to understand how data is collected, transformed and used.

• Translate business needs into clear functional specifications and technical analysis documents.

• Define and document source-to-target data mappings, transformation rules and data flows across applications and data warehouses.

• Assess the impact of changes on data, interfaces and downstream applications.

• Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, data teams and other IT teams to define appropriate solutions.

• Prepare and execute test plans, including data validation and reconciliation.

• Investigate anomalies, support bug fixing and follow up on their resolution.

• Support users and ensure effective documentation and knowledge sharing.

• Coordinate rehearsals and production go-live activities, potentially during weekends.

• Follow up on delivery against the agreed planning and help ensure production stability.

Requirements

Required experience and knowledge

The ideal candidate should have:

• Proven experience as a Functional Analyst on data-related projects.

• Experience in banking or finance, with an understanding of financial processes and business requirements.

• A solid understanding of data warehouses, data models, data mapping and data flows.

• Experience documenting data requirements, transformation rules and interfaces between systems.

• The ability to understand and challenge business requirements and translate them into practical functional solutions.

• Experience with functional testing, data quality checks and validating data consistency across systems.

Technical knowledge

The Functional Analyst should:

• Be comfortable working with relational databases, particularly Oracle and SQL Server.

• Be able to use SQL to explore data, investigate issues and validate results.

• Understand ETL/ELT processes and how data moves between source systems, data warehouses and reporting applications.

• Be comfortable collaborating with technical teams across Linux, Windows and cloud environments.

• Coordinate with external infrastructure partners and vendors when required.

Nice to have

• Experience with regulatory reporting or financial risk data.
