Principal Software Engineer – AI-Native Architecture (Discovery Platform)

Ghent, Belgium (Hybrid 2–3 days in office required)_

Context & Impact

We’re looking for a Principal Software Engineer to operate at the intersection of deep technical expertise and cross-functional leadership. This is not a people management role, but a position for someone who has developed strong intuition for how complex systems behave and can translate that into architectural direction and meaningful organizational impact.

You will work on the Discovery platform, one of the core pillars of Lansweeper, responsible for identifying, classifying, and understanding assets across complex IT, OT, and networked environments.

In the near term, you will drive architectural clarity, scalability, and reliability of the platform. Over time, you will shape how AI-native engineering practices are applied to discovery, protocol analysis, and large-scale system intelligence.

AI Fluency

At Lansweeper, we are building an AI-native engineering culture. We expect all engineers to actively use AI tools (such as Claude) in their day-to-day work to improve efficiency and output quality across the software development lifecycle, including coding, testing, documentation, and system design.

Challenge

The main challenges you'll face are:

  • Driving architectural clarity across a distributed discovery platform operating on incomplete, variable, and large-scale data

  • Balancing scalability, reliability, and correctness in complex networked environments

  • Ensuring technical coherence across teams while evolving systems and practices toward AI-native development

What you'll do

  • Build. You will still ship code, prototypes, deliverables, and tackle the hardest problems, leading by example

  • Drive architectural direction and long-term technical strategy for the Discovery platform, with measurable gains in scalability, reliability, and discovery accuracy

  • Own cross-team technical coherence through design reviews, RFCs, alignment, and influence across neighboring teams

  • Act as technical reference for complex systems, networking, and discovery challenges

  • Define and evolve AI-native engineering practices, including where AI is used (code, tests, protocol reverse-engineering, documentation) and where boundaries are required (security, reproducibility), and drive adoption beyond your team

  • Partner with product, infrastructure, and business stakeholders to turn ambiguous problem spaces into executable solutions

  • Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across engineering

What we're looking for

Required

  • 10+ years in software engineering with progression into architecture and technical leadership

  • Proven cross-team impact, influencing architecture, driving adoption, and improving outcomes

  • Strong distributed-systems and backend experience in production, including large-scale, variable, or partial-data environments

  • Strong networking fundamentals, the deeper the better

  • AI fluency and orchestration: you use AI across your daily craft — code, tests, documentation — and critically assess correctness, security, and limitations

  • Solid grasp of data modeling, APIs, and service-oriented architectures

Strong Plus

  • Affinity with .NET / C# (our primary platform; language matters less than how you think and orchestrate AI)

  • Deep protocol-level knowledge

  • Experience building or operating large-scale discovery or scanning systems

  • Solid CI/CD practices and experience operating containerized workloads in production

Nice To Have

  • Experience with Rust, Go, or Java

  • Exposure to OT, IoT or medical environments

  • Experience with on-premise or air-gapped deployments

  • High-throughput service design

  • Platform engineering and infrastructure-as-code experience
