A full-time academic position in Architecture and History, Theory and Critique of Architectural Representation

Post description

Within the Faculty of Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Urban Planning and the Louvain research institute for Landscape, Architecture, Built environment, Science and Technology Sector, this position will include the following teaching, research and community service duties:

Teaching

You will teach mainly in the field of architectural representation:
- Courses on the theory and critique of representation.
- Drawing and representation at the intersection of analog and digital methods, in a hybrid approach (relationship between physicality and virtuality, reality and artificiality) within activities associated to the teaching of architectural design studio.
- Practice of representation (observed, imagined and projected object, and graphic narrative).


You will teach in various study programmes managed by the faculty and also supervise master's theses. The position is administratively assigned to the site of LOCI Saint-Gilles site, where most courses will be taught. However, teaching activities may be conducted both on the sites of LOCI Louvain-la-Neuve and LOCI Tournai.

The domain of representation within the architecture program is enriched by multi-site collaborations and expertise. The ongoing reflection on the pedagogical line is therefore constructed within this framework.

Research

You will develop your research activities, including the lead of research programs, in the field of architectural representation, focusing on:
- The history, theory, and critique of architectural representation in relation to contemporary architectural issues.
- The media (analog, digital, AI, etc.) and purposes (description, design, narration) of architectural representation.
- Hybrid approaches between analog and digital modes for architectural representation.
- The articulation between representation and architectural design.


You will be responsible for the supervision of PhD theses.


Research activities may be conducted across the three sites of the LAB institute.

In addition …

Once tenured, you will carry out various service activities and responsibilities within the institution, such as being a member of a programme committee or examination committee, or having management responsibilities within the faculty or research institute. These services will be provided within the multi-site framework of the faculty and the institute.

You will also contribute to serving society, particularly in the economic, social, cultural or development cooperation fields. Finally, you will ensure, through research and teaching activities, the university’s international visibility.

Who we’re looking for

Education

You have a PhD, with a thesis on a subject related to the history, theory, and critique of architectural representation with consideration of spatial issues.
You hold a degree in architecture or architectural engineering. A degree in a comparable or related field, supplemented by proven experience or knowledge in architecture
