Machine Learning Engineer | Energy Transition Scale-up (Liège)

Permanent contract

About our client

Our client is an internationally active technology specialist in grid optimization for the energy sector. Its solutions help grid operators make the most of their transmission capacity, detect defects at an early stage and improve the reliability and resilience of the network. In doing so, the company accelerates the integration of renewable energy. It works with customers and installations around the world.

About the role

As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will build and maintain the AI/ML solutions behind the company's products. You take full responsibility for these models in production: keeping them dependable, improving them over time and automating their training.

You will be part of the software development team and help integrate models and tools into customer-facing applications and internal systems. This is a hands-on role with a lot of ownership, not a pure research position.

What you'll do

  • Design, implement, maintain and optimize domain-specific AI/ML algorithms, using the company's own sensor data alongside other sources such as remote sensors, weather providers and customers' own data, and drive their integration into the software platforms
  • Take full ownership of ML models in production: keep them reliable at scale, improve their accuracy and automate the pipelines that train and serve them
  • Support the software development frameworks with sample algorithms and libraries
  • Provide technical support to customers and internal departments

What we're looking for

Required

  • MSc in Computer Science or Data Science (or equivalent or higher)
  • Hands-on experience creating and applying advanced machine learning algorithms and statistical methods: regression, simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, clustering, decision trees and neural networks
  • Experience querying databases, working with web services and using statistical/computing languages
  • Experience automating ML model variations using scripts or CI pipelines
  • Experience in Python and SQL
  • Demonstrated experience deploying and maintaining ML models in production
  • Strong experience in time series data processing
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills in English and French
  • Comfortable working in an international environment with remote teams
  • A genuine appetite for learning new technologies and taking on varied tasks

Nice to have

  • Working experience in Java and ONNX models
  • Experience developing customer-facing applications
  • Experience working with GIS, 3D or Lidar data
  • Experience with SCADA systems and energy-sector applications
  • Experience with unit testing

You don't need to tick every nice-to-have box.

What we offer

  • A permanent position at an innovative scale-up in the energy transition sector
  • An international team, varied tasks and real ownership of models in production
  • A competitive salary
  • Additional benefits
  • Home working
  • Location: Liège

Languages

English and French. Day-to-day work is mostly in English, but a good command of French is a clear asset for working with the whole team.
