We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist MRI to join an advanced analytical characterization team within a leading pharmaceutical R&D environment. In this laboratory-based role, you will contribute to the development and application of innovative MRI methodologies to support pharmaceutical product development, formulation research, and drug-delivery technologies.

Read on to find out what you will need to succeed in this position, including skills, qualifications, and experience.

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams and subject matter experts, you will generate critical insights into the behavior, performance, and functionality of pharmaceutical materials and dosage forms using state-of-the-art MRI and NMR technologies.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of analytical science, imaging technology, and pharmaceutical innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and validate MRI methods for pharmaceutical materials, formulations, and dosage forms.
  • Establish MRI workflows that complement CT-based characterization techniques.
  • Investigate water ingress and hydration kinetics in tablets, capsules, gels, and complex formulations to understand disintegration, swelling, diffusion, and dissolution mechanisms.
  • Evaluate coating performance and capsule functionality, including integrity, permeability, delayed-release behavior, and release-controlling film properties.
  • Support the characterization of drug-delivery devices through non-destructive imaging of internal movement, fluid distribution, filling and emptying behavior, and functional performance.
  • Study sedimentation, phase separation, and resuspendability of suspensions and dispersed systems.
  • Translate imaging data into actionable scientific insights that support formulation and process development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across formulation development, analytical sciences, material sciences, and product performance testing.
  • Contribute to the development of internal expertise, best practices, SOPs, and data interpretation frameworks for MRI-based characterization.
  • Perform basic solid-state NMR experiments where appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, quality, regulatory, and GMP requirements.
