We are hiring a Director of AI Engineering & Enablement, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, to lead the transformation of how our R&D organization designs, builds, tests, documents, and delivers products using AI-assisted tools. This role is accountable for defining and executing a multi-year transformation of all global R&D practices by embedding AI into the core of the entire software development & delivery lifecycle by enabling and empowering the entire organization to level up in the new era of AI-powered software product delivery. The Director has the mandate to lead the transformation in a hands-on way with deep software engineering credibility, ensuring that AI adoption delivers measurable improvements in productivity, quality, and team member experience within our regulated environment. This is not a standalone AI team and not a policy or tools-only leadership role. The Director leads through example, partnership, coaching and hands-on engagement, enabling engineering teams to adopt AI within their workflows without each team reinventing the wheel.
The successful leader will stay on the leading edge of this rapidly evolving technology, bringing the highest ROI advancements to our team, while standardizing, establishing durable standards, financial, safety & security guardrails, and always in an ethical way.
Utilize metrics to demonstrate our progress. Fundamentally change how global R&D team designs, develops, tests, documents & delivers a software products Ensure AI becomes a default, trusted capability across the entire software development lifecycle Drive adoption that is scalable, compliant, and sustainable Balance strong governance with practical adoption to avoid unnecessary barriers to progress. Stay on the leading edge of AI software delivery knowledge to assess emerging tools, technology and practices in order to adjust our roadmap to achieve higher ROI or better outcomes as needed.

Waterloo, ONWhat You'll Do:Lead the AI-Driven Transformation of R&D Define and own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for AI-enabled software-product design, development, testing, documentation and delivery. Establish how AI is applied across the SDLC Set clear expectations for AI adoption tied to engineering outcomes Start with an AI enablement roadmap and priority pilots within product teams Quickly develop metrics to give a clear view of progress and opportunities Hands-On Engineering Leadership Partner directly with engineering teams, including pairing with product management, architects, developers, testers, technical writers, and program managers. Participate in pilots within active product codebases Model effective AI usage through hands-on engagement Enable & Empower Teams Coach teams to adopt AI within their own ownership boundaries Establish reusable patterns and playbooks Facilitate a rotating, cross-team AI working group Rapidly scale successful practices across teams, ensuring teams build on proven approaches rather than reinventing solutions locally. AI Tooling Strategy Define and govern AI tooling direction for R&D Evaluate and approve AI development tools keeping within budget Partner with DevOps, Tooling and Security to operationalize tooling Compliance Enablement Partner with Compliance and Legal teams who own policy Translate regulatory requirements into practical engineering guardrails Measure and Govern Outcomes Define metrics for productivity, quality, and adoption Use data to guide strategy and investment decisions Who You Are:Demonstrated credibility with senior software engineering leaders and practitioners Extensive hands-on senior software engineering experience Demonstrated ability to coach & mentor technical team members Proven success leading engineering transformation at scale Practical use of AI tools in real engineering environments, with prov
