Process Optimization Engineer – Pilot Plant Project
Are you an ambitious consultant with a passion for process engineering and product innovation? Do you thrive in a dynamic, hands-on environment where your analytical skills directly shape the future of a brand-new food product?
We are looking for a results-driven Process Optimization Consultant to join a high-impact pilot project in Vilvoorde. If you have a strong background in food or pharma engineering and love solving complex process puzzles, this is your opportunity to make a tangible mark from day one
About the Company
Our client is an international market leader in agricultural and food solutions. Known worldwide for their commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability, their facility in Vilvoorde is dedicated to pioneering new product formulations and cutting-edge processing techniques.
Job Overview
In this role, you will take ownership of fine-tuning a brand-new pilot plant installation featuring a newly set up extruder process. The primary goal is to optimize product quality, gather critical process data, and demonstrate operational success to key business stakeholders.
Working closely with a co-consultant, you will analyze parameters, conduct testing, and bring a sophisticated production line to full operational readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Process testing & fine tuning: conduct systematic trial runs across the entire extrusion line—including dry powder handling, industrial ovens, and the extruder—to establish optimal process parameters.
- Root cause analysis & troubleshooting: perform thorough root cause analysis to investigate why pilot runs deviate from target quality standards, identifying parameter shifts and executing corrective actions.
- Data collection & analysis: rigorously document parameter changes, evaluate process software data, and build an analytical foundation to understand what impacts the end product.
- Food safety & SOP support: ensure the entire pilot process strictly complies with food safety standards and provide accurate data to the team responsible for drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Controlled optimization: approach every trial with an analytical mindset—carefully evaluating risks before adjusting settings on high-value equipment.
- Cross-functional collaboration: partner with maintenance teams for mechanical/electrical support, utilize the on-site laboratory for sample testing (e.g., moisture levels), and report on progress during regular 1-on-1s with management.
Candidate profile
- Education & experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Technology, or Electromechanics, with proven experience in the food or pharmaceutical industry.
- Technical expertise: strong process engineering expertise with the ability to interpret software data for precise calibration and adjustments.
- Mindset: hands-on, problem-solving attitude with a startup mentality. You are thorough, cautious with expensive machinery, and structured in documenting results.
- Languages: fluency in English and/or French is required.
- Flexibility: comfortable working on-site in a pilot plant environment (including adhering to strict hygiene and protective clothing protocols).
