Senior Back End Developer

SENIOR BACKEND ENGINEER

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer, with strong Python experience, who can also take on Scrum Master responsibilities. Experience with Go is also a big plus.

You will lead backend architecture and development across multiple products, helping take them from fast-moving applications to secure, reliable and enterprise-scale platforms.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead the architecture and development of backend services across multiple products.
• Build highly available, low-latency and scalable Python APIs and services.
• Design real-time systems, including WebSockets/SSE, streaming updates and interactive workflows.
• Build content ingestion, media/document processing, indexing and asynchronous pipelines.
• Design event-driven systems, queues and background-job orchestration.
• Design robust APIs and integrations with internal and external services.
• Implement IAM, authentication, authorization and enterprise access controls.
• Design scalable object-storage and large-file workflows.
• Own backend reliability, performance, observability, security and production readiness.
• Contribute hands-on to the codebase and provide technical leadership.
• Support sprint planning and help the team remove delivery blockers.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience, with expert-level Python.
• Strong production experience with FastAPI and Pydantic; Go experience is also valued.
• Strong experience with real-time systems, WebSockets/SSE and asynchronous architectures.
• Strong experience designing APIs, distributed systems, events, queues and background jobs.
• Strong experience with content ingestion, media/document processing, indexing and search.
• Strong knowledge of MongoDB, SQL, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch and Redis.
• Experience with object storage and large-file processing workflows.
• Strong experience with IAM, authentication, authorization and application/API security.
• Experience building for high availability, low latency, scalability and fault tolerance.
• Strong understanding of async processing, concurrency, retries, idempotency and caching.
• Production experience with GCP, Kubernetes and Docker/Podman.
• Strong experience with CI/CD, testing, monitoring, logging and performance optimisation.
• Strong architectural judgment, technical ownership and communication skills.
• Practical experience with Agile/Scrum and engineering delivery.
