What you will do

  • Own the technical vision and evolution of core Data Platform components.
  • Design and develop scalable, resilient and secure platform services.
  • Define engineering standards, reusable patterns and reference architectures for data processing, storage and pipelines.
  • Lead technical decisions and contribute to architecture and design reviews.
  • Drive complex, cross-team technical initiatives from planning through production.
  • Ensure platform reliability through observability, monitoring, performance engineering and proactive incident prevention.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and implement systemic improvements following major incidents.
  • Guide and mentor engineers, raising engineering quality and technical autonomy.
  • Coordinate technical contributions across multiple engineers or teams.
  • Contribute to platform roadmaps, technical feasibility assessments and prioritisation.
  • Translate complex technical topics into clear recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, documentation, reuse and continuous engineering improvement.


What you bring

  • 10+ years of professional software/systems development experience, including significant technical leadership experience.
  • Strong hands-on Java 11/17 development experience.
  • Solid experience in data engineering and data platform development.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes or OpenShift, including containerised deployments.
  • Practical experience with Helm.
  • Experience with large-scale object storage such as Amazon S3 or an equivalent platform.
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka or Spark.
  • Good understanding of data lakes, data warehouses and Medallion architecture.
  • Strong experience with Git, Maven and CI/CD, ideally including Jenkins.
  • Understanding of PKI, SSL/TLS and certificate-based authentication.
  • Strong Unix/Linux scripting skills; Python is an advantage.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to mentor engineers and influence technical decisions.
  • Comfortable working with distributed, multicultural teams.
