SENIOR FGPA ENGINEER - ANTWERP (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION
Increase your chances of reaching the interview stage by reading the complete job description and applying promptly.
We're currently recruiting for a Senior FPGA Engineer to join the engineering team and play a key role in the development of advanced FPGA-based electronics for space applications. You will work on complex, highly reliable digital systems for next-generation spacecraft and space-based technologies, taking a leading technical role in designs where reliability, performance and long-term operation are critical.
You will be involved throughout the FPGA development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and architectural definition through RTL design, implementation, verification, hardware integration and qualification. You will contribute to FPGA architecture and key technical decisions around processing, interfaces, resource utilisation, timing and reliability, working closely with hardware, embedded software, systems, verification and test engineers.
As a senior member of the team, you will take technical ownership of FPGA developments, contribute to design reviews and development methodologies, and provide guidance to less experienced engineers where appropriate. The role combines hands-on development with architectural responsibility, as well as troubleshooting, system-level testing and supporting the transition from development into qualification and production.
The projects offer an interesting engineering challenge due to the constraints of the space environment. Depending on the application, you may work with requirements around radiation tolerance, fault detection, redundancy and high reliability, while balancing these against FPGA resources, performance and power consumption.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define FPGA architectures and technical solutions based on system and hardware requirements.
- Design, develop and maintain FPGA logic, primarily using VHDL.
- Translate system requirements into detailed FPGA requirements, specifications and designs.
- Develop RTL designs for complex digital systems, including interfaces, processing logic and control functions.
- Perform FPGA synthesis, implementation, timing analysis and resource optimisation.
- Develop and maintain simulation environments and test benches.
- Support verification and validation of FPGA designs at unit, subsystem and system level.
- Define and execute FPGA verification strategies, test plans and test cases.
- Analyse simulation and hardware test results and troubleshoot design issues.
- Support FPGA integration with processors, embedded software and surrounding electronics.
- Contribute to hardware bring-up, debugging and system-level testing.
- Support qualification and acceptance testing of space hardware.
- Consider requirements relating to radiation tolerance, reliability, redundancy and fault detection where applicable.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation throughout the development lifecycle.
- Participate in design reviews, technical discussions and engineering change processes.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced FPGA engineers.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of FPGA development, verification and engineering processes.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant professional experience in FPGA design and development.
- Strong experience with VHDL and RTL design.
- Experience with FPGA development tools such as Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of digital electronics and FPGA architectures.
- Experience with simulation, synthesis, timing analysis and hardware debugging.
- Experience developing verification environments and test benches.
- Good understanding of digital interfaces and communication protocols.
- Experience working across the full FPGA development lifecycle.
- Experience in a high-reliability engineering environment, ideally aerospace, space, defence, automotive, medical or another safety-critical industry.
- Familiarity with hardware/software integration and embedded systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Fluent in English. xlxgzvr
