ppThis is a database platform role rather than a query-tuning one. The estate is mixed — SQL Server at its centre, Azure alongside it, and open-source engines around the edges — and the job is to keep all of it available, fast and recoverable while it moves steadily towards the cloud. /p pIt suits a database engineer who automates what they do twice, who takes high availability and disaster recovery seriously enough to test them, and who writes the runbook before it is needed. /p h3What you would be doing /h3 ul liInstall, configure, upgrade, patch and back up database systems on premises and in the cloud. /li liDesign and support high availability and disaster recovery — availability groups, failover clustering, replication and a backup strategy that has actually been restored. /li liMonitor performance, availability and capacity, and deal with problems before they become incidents. /li liBuild automation — scripts, workflows and pipelines — for administration, monitoring and operational reporting. /li liSupport migration and modernisation towards cloud database services. /li liWork with the application, infrastructure and cloud teams on performance, reliability and scale. /li liKeep access control, encryption, auditing and vulnerability management in good order, and the documentation with it. /li /ul h3What you would bring /h3 ul liExpert-level SQL Server administration, tuning and troubleshooting. /li liReal experience of availability groups, failover clustering, replication and recovery. /li liCloud database work, preferably on Azure — managed instance, database services, virtual machines. /li liWorking knowledge of PostgreSQL and MySQL or MariaDB, and ideally MongoDB. /li liAutomation in PowerShell, T-SQL or Python, and comfort with infrastructure as code and deployment pipelines. /li liSound fundamentals: relational design, indexing, query optimisation and capacity planning. /li /ul pThe work is full time on site in Braine-l'Alleud, in normal office conditions. /p /p
