Context

We are looking for an intern who would like to join the Private Banking Control & KYC team inside the Business Support Operations department. This department is the first line of defense for all Investment and Business activities within Private Banking.

The PB Control & KYC officer is responsible for performing first level controls and contributing to overall risk management. The role involves close collaboration with various departments across Private Banking.

The goal of the team is to monitor the client data, but even more important to protect the bank against the potential risks of money laundering, fraud, …

Your position

You will start with a balanced set of responsibilities, allowing you to build strong foundations in both Control activities and KYC analysis, while progressively taking on more complex tasks.

First Set of Responsibilities – Split Equally Between Controls and KYC

Controls – Developing Your Analytical & Risk Management Skills

You Will Support The PB Control Team By

  • Assisting Control Officers in conducting research across several internal databases (CRM, DGArchive, etc.).
  • Performing initial, straightforward controls—such as client classification or phone record checks—before gradually moving to more complex reviews across critical investment and business processes (e.g., trade suitability, order taking validation, cross border compliance, AML controls…).
  • Preparing clear, structured control reports summarizing findings, highlighting risks, and suggesting improvement actions.
  • Drafting or updating working instructions to document how controls should be performed.

These tasks will give you a hands-on understanding of the bank’s risk environment and how the first line of defense operates.

KYC Analysis – Strengthening Your Regulatory & Investigative Mindset

You will contribute to the bank’s client risk monitoring efforts by:

  • Supporting the PB KYC team on the periodic KYC review campaigns for 2025 and 2026 (PKR 2025 / PKR 2026).
  • Reviewing client files using multiple internal databases and helping assess whether client information is complete and up to date.
  • Screening for adverse media and verifying client identification data to identify potential risk indicators.
  • Collaborating closely with key stakeholders—including Private Bankers and the AML Compliance team—acting as a bridge between different departments and gaining valuable exposure to the bank’s broader ecosystem.

This part of the role will help you build strong investigative skills and a solid understanding of regulatory expectations.

Second Set of Responsibilities – Growing Into a More Independent Role

Responsibilities

As you gain confidence and deepen your understanding of risks and review processes, you may progress to more advanced responsibilities, such as:

  • Challenging existing controls and proposing improvements — e.g., removing obsolete steps, enhancing controls through partial automation, or transforming certain checks into statistical monitoring. Once validated, you will implement the changes, update documentation, and present your conclusions to the Head of PB Control & KYC, as well as to Risk Management and Compliance.
  • Acting as a liaison between Private Bankers, Portfolio Managers, and second line teams (Risk & Compliance). You will help identify areas where reminders or training are needed and contribute to reinforcing best practices across the bank.

These tasks will allow you to take ownership, show initiative, and contribute to continuous improvement within the department.

Third Set of Responsibilities – Leading a Project Based on Your Strengths

Skills

Depending on your skills and the department’s needs, you will take ownership of one of the 2 following key projects:

  • Quarterly Control Report
  • Smart Automation Tools for Enhanced Control & KYC Accuracy
