For our client, a European Union Organisation, we are looking for an experienced Solution Architect (Java, Enterprise Integration & API Architecture) to join a long-term international project.
You will contribute to the evolution and governance of the European ecosystem, supporting large-scale interoperability solutions used by public administrations and organisations across Europe. This is a unique opportunity to work on strategic digital initiatives that enable secure, reliable, and scalable cross-border communication services within the European Union.
Role Overview:As an Solution Architect, you will be responsible for designing and governing end-to-end solution architectures, defining technical standards, and ensuring alignment across eDelivery specifications, products, and development processes.
You will work closely with architects, developers, DevOps engineers, security specialists, and business stakeholders to deliver enterprise-grade solutions while ensuring compliance with security, interoperability, and architecture standards.

Responsibilities:
Design and develop business and technical architectures aligned with business needs.
Define measurable non-functional requirements, including scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability.
Ensure an integrated and coherent technical approach across eDelivery specifications, products, and related processes.
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, analyse, and refine business and technical requirements.
Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, frameworks, and architectural patterns.
Create and maintain architectural artefacts, including:Solution Context DiagramsC4 Architecture ModelsAPI ContractsData ModelsThreat ModelsDeployment DiagramsDefine integration patterns, data flows, and API standards.
Ensure solutions follow enterprise architecture principles and secure-by-design practices.
Guide development teams throughout implementation and deployment phases.
Conduct architecture reviews and code reviews.
Support the development of security architectures, including identity management, encryption, secrets management, and threat modelling.
Implement observability practices, including logging, monitoring, metrics, and distributed tracing.
Incorporate resiliency patterns such as retries, fault tolerance, and circuit breakers.
Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks.
Contribute to DevSecOps processes, CI/CD pipelines, release management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Produce and maintain technical documentation, specifications, and presentations in English.
Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance across multiple teams.

Requirements:
Higher education (Bachelor's, Engineer's or Master's degree).
Language: English – minimum C1 level (CEFR). Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Professional

Experience:
Minimum 8 years of experience in Software Architecture.
Minimum 10 years of experience with backend technologies and frameworks, including Java, Python, Spring, Spring Boot, and Hibernate.
Minimum 8 years of experience with Enterprise Applications and Middleware.
Minimum 8 years of experience in API Management, including REST, SOAP, and OpenAPI.
Minimum 8 years of experience designing and implementing Distributed Transactional Systems.
Minimum 8 years of experience with Relational Databases, including Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
Minimum 8 years of experience with Networking Concepts and Protocols.
Minimum 5 years of experience with Observability and Monitoring practices.
Minimum 5 years of experience with Docker and containerisation technologies.
Experience designing scalable and extensible enterprise solutions.
Experience communicating and enforcing architectural decisions across multiple teams.
Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring development teams.
