Role: Senior Data Engineer – Financial Services

Location: Ghent, Belgium (1 day per week onsite, 4 days remote)

Contract: 12-Month Freelance Contract (Extension Likely)

Rate: To be discussed competitive market rate


Our client, a well-established organisation within the financial services sector, is looking to engage an experienced Senior Data Engineer to support a number of key data initiatives across the business. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing team working on modernising data platforms, improving data quality, and enabling better business decision-making through scalable data solutions.


The successful consultant will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust data pipelines and data infrastructure while working closely with business stakeholders, analysts, and engineering teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimise scalable ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Develop and maintain data models, integrations, and workflows across multiple systems.
  • Work closely with business and technical teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Ensure data quality, reliability, and governance standards are maintained.
  • Support the ongoing development and enhancement of the organisation's cloud-based data platform.
  • Contribute to best practices around automation, monitoring, and performance optimisation.


Required Experience

  • Proven experience working as a Senior Data Engineer within complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong SQL development and data modelling expertise.
  • Hands-on experience with Python for data engineering and automation.
  • Experience building and maintaining cloud-based data platforms (Azure preferred).
  • Knowledge of modern data warehousing and data lake architectures.
  • Experience working with large-scale datasets and performance optimisation.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Desirable Skills

  • Experience within financial services, banking, insurance, or regulated environments.
  • Exposure to Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse Analytics, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD processes and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience with real-time or streaming data solutions.


Contract Details

  • Initial 12-month contract.
  • Strong likelihood of extension.
  • Hybrid working model with 1 day per week onsite in Ghent and the remainder remote.
  • Competitive daily rate available.
