Position title:     Public Affairs Officer

 

Reporting line:  Senior Manager, Public Affairs

 

**Role Overview**

 

This role supports the development and implementation of public affairs activities that advance the organization’s policy objectives and stakeholder engagement priorities. The External Affairs Officer contributes to the effective coordination of the public affairs function by providing analytical, operational, and coordination support, ensuring alignment, consistency, and timely delivery across initiatives. The role works closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to strengthen the organization’s public affairs execution and impact.

**Key responsibilities**

 

- Support the public affairs team in the execution of advocacy and engagement strategies aligned with organizational priorities.
- Support the project management and delivery of public affairs initiatives by tracking timelines, deliverables, and next steps, and ensuring effective follow-up across workstreams.
- Support the planning and organization of public affairs events, roundtables, and external engagements.
- Assist with stakeholder engagement activities, including meeting preparation, background research, and post-engagement follow-up.
- Contribute to strategic public affairs work through research, analysis, and drafting of internal notes, presentations, and external-facing materials.
- Ensure effective internal coordination and information flow within the public affairs team and with relevant internal stakeholders.

 

This role description is not prescriptive and the post-holder may be required to undertake other responsibilities reasonably required by the External Affairs team in order to support and fulfil the purpose of the role.

 

**Desired competences and experience**

 

- 2 years of professional experience in public affairs, advocacy, government relations, or a related field, preferably at global or regional (i.e. EU) level
- Strong writing and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex policy developments into clear internal materials.
- Good task manager, able to keep on top of multiple tasks and ensure their delivery.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills.
- Fluency in English, with native-level or exceptional written and spoken proficiency; knowledge of additional languages is an asset.
- Cultural awareness and inclusivity, thriving in an international and multicultural setting.
- Candidates must be Brussels based and eligible to work in Belgium.

**Relevant information for candidates**

- CropLife International currently operates a hybrid working model, with a maximum of two days home office per week and fifteen days working in an EU location outside of Belgium per year. This policy is subject to pre-approval.
- Successful candidates are expected to be flexible and adaptable to fluctuating workflows and be open to international travel as needed.
