Senior Data Engineer (Contract)Location : Brussels, BelgiumOn-site: 1 day per weekRemote: 4 days per weekContract DetailsRate: €950 per dayDuration: 3-year long-term projectStart Date: Flexible / ASAPOverviewWe are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join a long-term, strategic data transformation programme based in Brussels. The role sits within a modern data platform initiative leveraging cutting-edge data technologies, including Databricks, to deliver scalable, high-performance data solutions across the organization.This is a senior-level position suited to someone who can operate autonomously, contribute to architectural decisions, and work closely with business and technical stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data platformsDevelop and optimize data processing workflows using Databricks (Spark)Work with large, complex datasets in both batch and near real-time environmentsCollaborate with data architects, data scientists, and analytics teams to enable advanced use casesEnsure data quality, reliability, performance, and security across the platformContribute to best practices around data engineering, DevOps, and CI/CDSupport and mentor junior engineers where requiredEngage with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutionsTechnical Skills & Experience (Required)Extensive experience as a Senior Data Engineer on large-scale data platformsStrong hands-on experience with Databricks and Apache SparkProficiency in Python (and/or Scala) for data engineeringSolid experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)Strong knowledge of data modelling, ETL/ELT, and data warehousing conceptsExperience working with modern data architectures (Lakehouse, Data Lake, etc.)Familiarity with CI/CD, version control, and Infrastructure as CodeStrong SQL skillsNice to HaveExperience in regulated environments (e.g. banking, financial services, insurance)Exposure to streaming technologies (e.g. Kafka, Spark Structured Streaming)Experience with data governance, lineage, and cataloguing toolsSoft SkillsExcellent communication skills and stakeholder managementAbility to work independently in a senior, trusted roleStrong problem-solving mindsetComfortable working in an international, enterprise environmentWhy This RoleLong-term 3-year programme offering stability and impactWork with latest-generation data technologiesHybrid working model with minimal on-site requirementHigh daily rate reflecting seniority and responsibility
