Essensys has been mandated to conduct a confidential executive search for a Marketing & Innovation Director within an international food/manufacturing environment.This is a international senior leadership role positioned at management level, combining marketing leadership, innovation governance and portfolio/category strategy, with direct accountability for commercial performance (growth and margin).This is not a communication- or campaign-led position. The role is designed to strengthen marketing as a business driver, tightly connected to Sales, Operations and Supply Chain, and to translate strategy into measurable outcomes through disciplined execution.The mandateThe Marketing & Innovation Director will take end-to-end ownership for the Marketing & Innovation function and its contribution to business results, including:Defining and delivering annual and multi-year marketing and portfolio strategies, aligned with local market realities and global direction.Leading portfolio/category management: assortment optimisation, product rationalisation, value management principles, and commercial impact tracking.Driving innovation and NPD governance from concept to launch, including business cases, stage-gates and operational feasibility.Ensuring close alignment with Sales (including customer-facing support where relevant) to convert strategy into growth, mix and margin outcomes.Partnering cross-functionally with Operations and Supply Chain to ensure feasibility, forecasting accuracy and strong execution.Contributing to cross-functional planning processes (incl. S&OP / IBP linkage), ensuring marketing inputs are embedded in operational cadence.Leading and developing the Marketing & Innovation team, setting standards for performance, accountability and collaboration.Operating effectively in a matrix organisation, balancing local autonomy with global alignment and complex stakeholder governance.Skills required to succeedTo be successful in this role, the candidate will demonstrate:Commercial & value-driven mindset: ability to translate marketing and innovation into measurable growth, mix and margin impact, with ROI discipline.Portfolio & category judgement: ability to make clear trade-offs, prioritise decisively and drive end-to-end decisions.Cross-functional influence: proven capability to mobilise Sales, Operations and Supply Chain without relying on formal authority.Execution discipline: structured approach to governance, cadence, decision rights and follow-through.Innovation governance capability: experience managing structured innovation pipelines and launches in manufacturing contexts.Data-driven decision making: comfort with dashboards, insights, forecasting inputs and performance tracking.Ideal backgroundSenior leadership experience in Marketing / Category / Portfolio / Innovation within FMCG / Food / manufacturing-linked environments.Track record in driving business outcomes beyond brand metrics (growth, margin, value management).Proven experience operating in a matrix with complex stakeholder environments and cross-country/global alignment.Strong leadership maturity: credible at management level, able to build teams and drive standards.Fluent in Dutch & English (additional languages are an asset).Interested or know a suitable profile?This search is conducted in full confidence.
