Embedded Software Engineer – Aerospace SystemsLocation: Ghent, BelgiumWorking Model: HybridAbout the Role:We are supporting an advanced aerospace technology company based in Ghent that is developing next-generation embedded systems for high-performance, mission-critical applications.The team is looking to strengthen its embedded software capability with an engineer experienced in C/C++, Embedded Linux, and hardware acceleration to offload computationally intensive workloads from general-purpose CPUs.This role sits at the intersection of software, hardware, and real-time systems, contributing to platforms where performance, reliability, and determinism are critical.Key Responsibilities:Design, develop, and optimize embedded software in C/C++ for aerospace systemsWork on Embedded Linux–based platforms (kernel, drivers, BSP, system integration)Interface with and program specialized processing units such as GPUs, TPUs, NPUs, and/or FPGAsOffload compute-heavy tasks from CPUs, including:AI / ML inferenceImage, video, and signal processingGraphics pipelinesCryptographic or security-related workloadsCollaborate closely with hardware, electronics, and systems engineers to co-design efficient software-hardware solutionsOptimize for performance, latency, power consumption, and reliabilitySupport system bring-up, debugging, and validation on real hardwareContribute to documentation and engineering best practices in a safety-critical environmentRequired Experience & Skills:Strong experience in embedded software development using C and C++Solid background with Embedded Linux (Yocto/Buildroot, drivers, kernel-space vs user-space concepts)Hands-on experience working with hardware accelerators:GPUs, TPUs, NPUs, FPGAs, or custom ASICsExperience offloading compute-intensive workloads from CPUsStrong understanding of:Low-level systems programmingMemory management, concurrency, and performance optimizationComfortable working close to hardware (registers, interfaces, bring-up, debugging)Nice to Have:Experience in aerospace, defence, automotive, or other safety-critical industriesFamiliarity with real-time constraints and deterministic systemsExposure to AI acceleration frameworks, video pipelines, or crypto/security stacksKnowledge of hardware description languages (VHDL/Verilog) or FPGA toolchainsExperience with cross-compilation, CI/CD for embedded systems, or static analysis toolsWhat’s on Offer:Work on cutting-edge aerospace platforms with real-world impactHigh-complexity technical challenges across software and hardwareCollaborative engineering environment with strong technical ownershipCompetitive salary and benefits packageLong-term, stable projects in a highly regulated, advanced technology domain
