Full-time academic position in immuno oncology - Faculty of medicine and faculty of sciences

The appointee will run a group dedicated to Immuno-Oncology. Her/His main task will be to develop a high-quality research program in close collaboration with fundamental immunologists, researchers active in translational oncology and clinical oncologists.

The ULB Cancer Research Center (U-CRC) and ULB Center for Research in Immunology (U-CRI) gather more than 250 scientists and clinicians. There is a strong will to further develop the field of immuno-oncology. This will be achieved in close collaboration with the groups that work in fundamental immunology (located within the Brussels South Charleroi Biopark, a highly dynamic environment dedicated to life sciences; biopark.be) and those active in translational and clinical oncology at the « pôle santé» including the academic hospital Erasme and Institut Jules Bordet (bordet.be). The appointee is expected to develop activities in both campuses.

Area of Research: Immunology, Oncology.

Educational and scientific goals: To develop an internationally-competitive research program and to partake actively in teaching medical and science students, at both the bachelor and master level.

Courses covered at the time of recruitment: the teaching load will be defined later.

Qualifications required:

PhD Degree (with doctoral thesis) in biological or biomedical sciences, medicine or pharmaceutical sciences.

Skills required
  • Applicants should have at least 4 years of research experience at the time of their recruitment.
  • Post-doctoral experience and an excellent scientific record are a plus.
  • Exchange periods outside of the applicants' home institution (during or after their PhD) will be taken into consideration when evaluating applications.
  • Applicants who do not speak French (level C1) may be granted a period of adaptation, but they must be able to teach in French at the end of the third year following their appointment.
  • The candidate has a recognized expertise in immuno-oncology.
  • The candidate will have proven ability to carry out high-quality original research in relation to career stage.

  • a teaching dossier including a 7,000-character report (4 pages) on the applicant's previous teaching activities and a teaching project for the first five years in this position; these must be relevant to the faculty and to the teaching profiles for the programmes to which the applicant is to contribute.
  • a note on the applicant's international achievements and projects (no more than 4 pages).
  • the names and e-mail addresses of five referees (respecting the gender balance) who may be contacted by those in charge of evaluating applications. These referees should not have conflicts of interest because of family or emotional ties.

The appointment to the academic staff of ULB is made at "Chargé de Cours" level. As of their appointment, members of academic staff are authorised to use the honorary title of "Professeur".
