Tax Specialist

Function

To strengthen our Tax Team, based in Brussels, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of Tax Specialist.

The Tax Specialist will be a member of the Group Tax Department, which is led by the Group Head of Accounting and Tax. Located in Belgium, the Group Tax Department also provides strategic input to local teams across the group. As Tax operations officer, you will be part of the Group Tax team of the Elia Group.

Your role and responsibilities:

Your main tasks include the accurate and timely completion of tax operational procedures. You ensure compliance with tax regulations and ensure daily tax reporting for all internal and external clients. You are responsible for the maintenance of the tax data and you also take an active part in digitalization of all our compliance processes.

Tax accounting compliance

  • You prepare monthly tax closing for Elia group companies (CIT computation using BEGAAP accounts)
  • You perform audit checks on A/R and A/P SAP postings and reconcile with tax data (prior experience with SAP is required)
  • You resolve tax reconciliation issues in VAT and CIT and provide root-cause analysis and implement resolving actions.
  • You prepare and file tax returns (CIT, VAT, WHT) in accordance with the relevant regulation.
  • You assist in the preparation of import and export formalities linked to our offshore activities.
  • You prepare tax information and statements for tax audits.

Tax automation and risk management:

  • You engage in process improvement projects and demonstrate critical thinking about our tax operations.
  • You maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax laws and ensure robust tax-related policies and procedures.
  • You prepare qualitative data reports on tax position of Elia group companies for tax auditing purposes.
  • You participate in internal / external learning sessions and remain committed in professional development of your (tax) skills.
Your Profile
  • At least a bachelor's degree in Tax, Accountancy, or Business Economics
  • At least 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in a similar position in the Business
  • Good knowledge of Excel and Word (PowerBI is a plus)
  • High level of organization and time management
  • Team player, acting with integrity
  • High ability to learn and effectively use new and evolving processes that relate to tax reporting tasks
  • Good communication and presentational skills (oral and written)
  • Eager to self-develop in an international environment and eager to learn about tax in the energy sector, regulated sector contingencies and think out-of-the box based on this very specific environment.
  • Fluent in French or Dutch and good command of the other national language. Knowledge of English.
