Senior Data Engineer (Contract) Sector: Leading Telecommunications Provider Location: Brussels, Belgium - Fully Remote Contract Length: Initial 12 months (highly likely extension up to 3 years) Rate: €950 per day Start Date: ASAP / Flexible Overview A sector-leading telecommunications organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join a major, long-term data platform programme. This role sits within a strategic initiative to build and scale a modern data platform using Databricks and Apache Spark , supporting advanced analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision-making at enterprise scale. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior contractor looking for a high-impact role with long-term stability , working on modern technologies within a mature, well-funded programme. Key Responsibilities Design, build, and optimise scalable data pipelines using Databricks and Apache Spark Develop robust batch and (where applicable) streaming data solutions Work on large-scale datasets to support analytics and business intelligence use cases Collaborate closely with data architects, analysts, and business stakeholders Ensure high standards around data quality, performance, reliability, and security Contribute to architectural decisions and data engineering best practices Support and guide less senior engineers within the team Required Skills & Experience Proven experience working as a Senior Data Engineer in complex, enterprise environments Strong hands-on experience with Databricks and Apache Spark Excellent Python skills (Scala is a plus) Strong SQL and data modelling experience Experience with cloud-based data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) Solid understanding of modern data architectures (Lakehouse, Data Lake, ELT/ETL) Comfortable working in agile, cross-functional teams Nice to Have Experience in telecommunications or other high-volume data environments Exposure to streaming technologies (Kafka, Spark Structured Streaming) Experience with data governance, performance tuning, and cost optimisation Why This Role €950/day rate reflecting seniority and impact Hybrid model with 2 days per week on-site in Brussels Work with cutting-edge data technologies (Databricks, Spark) Initial 12-month contract with a clear path to a long-term 3-year engagement Strategic programme with real business impact at scale
