Position Overview:
The Flow Control Research team is looking for a Senior R&D Project Leader for product and production process development activities in Flow Control refractories. The working place is based at the global R&D centre in Ghlin. The Senior R&D Project Leader is responsible for formulating the project goals, planning and realization of the laboratory activities, production of prototypes and customer trials. In this role, the Senior R&D Project Leader interacts with different groups and individuals within R&D and in Marketing, Sales, Operations. The position offers an opportunity to work in a global organization which values energy, dedication, and creativity.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- To lead development projects to provide improved product performance or value.
- To design and to carry out experiments in support of new product development projects.
- To design and to carry out research experiments to increase fundamental understanding of products and processes.
- To identify and to implement improvements in R&D tests, processes, and equipment to yield a safer working environment and better-quality R&D results.
- To collaborate with internal colleagues and external scientists and to monitor technology advances in literature.
Requirements
Qualifications:
You have a master's or Ph.D Degree in Materials or Ceramic Science/Engineering or Civil Engineering or related field.
Experience:
You have at least 8-10 years of experience in R&D and/or in a similar role.
Required Skill Set:
Technical:
- You have a significant knowledge of applied materials science and engineering. Experience in research, production, and utilization of refractories is a plus.
- You also have some knowledge in the following subject areas:
- Material processing (raw material mixing, pressing, heat treatments, coating);
- Material characterization (powder properties, mechanical tests, corrosion tests, microstructure characterization, ...);
- Steelmaking process.
- You are logical, methodical, and an adept of the "scientific" approach to problem solving.
- You have excellent analytical skills: you are a problem solver and are able to make complex decisions.
Personal, Operating & Management:
- You have a proven experience to lead multi-disciplinary projects.
- You are a driven & energetic person.
- You have a high level of autonomy: self-motivated, organized, focused, sense of priorities.
- You have an interest in teamwork and possibly managing a small team.
Interpersonal & Communication:
- You speak English (working language) in an international culture. Knowledge of French is a plus.
- You are able to present technical subjects to a non-technical audience.
- You are motivated to relocate to Belgium.
