ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY


As part of the Brussels team, the
Communication and Media intern **will be assisting with the communications and media work of ONE in Brussels focused on the EU institutions.


The full-time internship will be either 6 or 12 months in duration, starting in March (depending on the availability of the intern).

This internship is based in our Brussels office.

After COVID-19, we have become more flexible and colleagues are able to work remotely and come to the office 1-2 per week in average.


IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL

  • Support the Media Manager in its daily activities.
  • Coordinate ONE social media channels in Brussels to maintain a strong online presence to help ONE achieve its advocacy, campaigns and communications objectives.
  • Produce social media toolkits, posts, ideas for blogs and scoop oportunities for our group of activists in Brussels (ONE Youth Ambassadors).
  • Create visual content and live coverage of events such as photos, videos and live tweeting.
  • Draft press releases, reactions, media advisories and speaking points under the supervision of the Media Manager.
  • Assist the Media Manager in maintaining relations with relevant EU media outlets and Brusselsbased correspondents from national media in EU Member States.
  • Assist on the planning and development of communications and media projects.
  • Develop innovative ideas to maximise the visibility and impact of ONE in Brussels.
  • Monitor media coverage daily with a focus on ONE's core issues to influence the coverage and visibility of ONE Campaigns.
  • Draft a daily media monitoring brief.
  • Maintain an updated media database of journalists working on EU outlets, EU correspondents and local outlets on a regular basis.
  • Keep up to date ONE's media archive including news clips, photos, records of media coverage,etc.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • Student or recent graduate in International Development, Communications, Journalism, Political Science or a related field
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are essential. French, Dutch or other European languages are a plus.
  • An understanding of the Brussels communications and media market, as well as the requirements of different kinds of media i.e. online, print, TV, radio, etc.
  • Social media experience is desirable.
  • Ability to synthesise complicated policy issues into digestible products to specialist and nonspecialist audiences.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational capacities.
  • Ability to manage multiple, shifting priorities under tight schedules while performing in a fastpaced, collaborative environment
  • Strong sense of teamwork and collaborationworking on a multicultural environment collaborating with colleagues and external parties
  • Interest in development cooperation, international affairs and Africa
  • Right to work in the EU
