To strengthen our
Development Science team, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of
Non-Clinical Safety Lead, a Project Toxicologist with strong expertise in developing drugs from Discovery Research to Submission.

Having experience in immunology, neuroscience or rare disease therapeutic areas is a plus.

The role is based close to the research centers either in the UK (London area), Belgium (Brussels area) or in the US (Boston area).


In this role:

  • You will be responsible for the nonclinical safety development of multiple drug formats including biologics, small molecules, and emerging new formats such as gene therapy or protein degraders
  • You will build and deliver nonclinical safety strategies to global interdisciplinary project teams from Discovery Research through early development and into clinical trials, and, if applicable, to Submission
  • You will represent UCB at Health Authority meetings for assigned projects
  • You may participate in various toxicology and R&D initiatives including crossfunctional collaborations internally and externally via scientific consortia You will influence the portfolio from target entrance and through the entire project lifecycle

education, experience
and
skills:

You hold a degree in biomedical science, immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology, or veterinary medicine, have a strong knowledge of nonclinical safety in drug development (experience with immunology or bone therapeutic areas or in neuroscience therapeutic area would be beneficial but not essential), and have extensive experience of discovery support and regulatory toxicology in the pharmaceutical industry.

A good basic knowledge of PKPD, DMPK, bioanalysis/biomarker, and quantitative pharmacology functions would also be a plus.

Due to the nature of the position, the following are desirable assets:

  • Experience in supporting NCE or NBE projects as project toxicologist in the discovery and development phases with a flexible, collaborative, and innovative approach. Experience in gene-therapy, protein degrader, or another novel format is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate interactions; excellent oral and written English communication skills. Demonstrated technical writing skills.
  • A problemsolving, strong decisionmaking, and innovative mindset.
  • Experience of critical data analysis and interpretation.
  • Ability to work independently and as a strong collaborative member of diverse global teams. The ability to lead the development science subteam, including representatives from toxicology, PKPD, DMPK, bioanalysis/biomarker, and quantitative pharmacology functions, is an additional asset
  • Open, confident, and persuasive behaviour, succeeding through influence, experience in balancing big picture thinking with detailed analysis, ability to be flexible and to adapt to a changing environment.
