Data Engineer

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

Umicore's Precious Metals Refining (PMR) department is seeking a Data Engineer to join our young Business Intelligence & Advanced Analytics Team.

We are currently using TimeXtender to derive value from raw data and support all of PMR in their day-to-day operational and decision making processes.

To a lesser extent, we make use of Azure Synapse and Azure Data Factory. Visualization is done in PowerBI.
In the course of 2024/2025 we will replace TimeXtender with Databricks and DBT.

You'll play a key role in transforming raw data into meaningful, actionable data.

This includes the capture of structured and unstructured data from different source systems, cleaning / aggregation / transformation, and delivery through validated data repositories and reporting.

You will also design, implement and maintain the global PMR data model, such that commonly used data by the different domains is aligned and the same definitions, content and understanding is guaranteed within the business domain, across the different domains and throughout the full PMR organization.

Uninterrupted data availability, data quality, and data delivery speed are also essential for value creation in a production environment. You maintain the data pipelines and monitor the loads of the data warehouse.

Another part of your role will be to act as point of contact to Corporate IT and Our clientcenters of expertise relevant to the scope of the job.

As well as continuously emphasizing a more standardized, automated and digitalized way of working, the vision is to bring the different departments at PMR to the next level in terms of digitalization and standardization to become a truly data-driven organization.

You are part of the PMR Business Intelligence and Advanced Analytics team, located at Hoboken.

Tasks & Responsibilities

• Design and implement best-in-class ETL packages and dimensional models for self-service BI solutions.
• Apply your software engineering expertise to implement part of those ETL packages on TimeXtender and towards the future Databricks + DBT.
• Define test scenarios and perform unit and integration testing.
• Implement SQL logic for ingesting the data into our TimeXtender environment.
• Extend the existing data model according to new requirements.
• Provide the necessary data from the data model to the Power BI dashboards.
• Implement data quality checks
• Act as primary contact for Corporate IT and Our clientCenters of Expertise during all system implementations
• Lifelong learning: adopt new techniques and technology in the fast evolving data landscape.

Technical Profile Requirements

• Bachelor or Master's degree in applied computer sciences, information technology sciences, engineering, mathematics or economy

* 3-5 years experience in the ETL and Datawarehouse domains.

* You can rely on technical knowledge in the following domains: o Programming:

• SQL (must have)
• Python (nice to have)

o TimeXtender (or willingness to go in depth to learn the tool)

o Azure Cloud (important:
Use of Azure is limited )

• Synapse Serverless
• Azure Data Factory
• Azure SQL Server
• Azure DevOps
• Databricks

o DBT (or willingness to go in depth to learn the tool)
o Data visualization (Power BI)
o Dimensional modelling

• Good understanding of self-service data analytics governance
• Working experience in a service-driven, customer-oriented environment
