Scientist Surface Functionalization

As a Scientist Surface functionalization you will be working in a group that identify dedicated surface chemistries, develops and optimizes Silicon-chip surface functionalization processes for next diagnostic product generations.
The processes will be focused around different surface modification of Si: (plasma) cleaning, thin organic film depositions (CVD) and surface spotting activities.
Investigating and controlling the chip surface interaction with various biomaterials and fluids as well as the surface antifouling and shelf-life are the focus of the group.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Develop the surface chemistry for the product range;
- Take ownership in organizing experiments, evaluating and interpreting the data, and writing scientific reports and documentation;
- Plan/design studies for the development, evolution and optimization of chemical processes within the project scope and timelines;
- Execute studies, analyse data, summarize/present results and write study reports independently;
- Contribute to projects requiring chemistry support in other research areas;
- Participate in identifying/trouble shooting experimental issues and recommending solutions;
- Find solutions to problems in a creative and scientifically sound way;
- Maintain well organized laboratory notebooks in compliance with relevant procedures.
- PhD degree or Master with equivalent industry experience in: (Bio)Chemistry, (either Pure or Applied) (bio)chemical engineering, (bio)chemistry engineering technology;
- Minimum 3 years of relevant industrial experience in diagnostics device development or IVD product Research & Development;
- Experience in cleaning and coating technology is highly desirable;
- Strong knowledge of silicon surface chemistry and surface characterization is a strong plus;
- Experience in coating technology, particularly chemical vapour deposition (CVD);
- Ability to Independently lead specific work packages;
- Handson and resourceful problem solver;
- Very good technical writing and communication skills;
- Attention to detail and ability to work in a structured and methodological way;
- Teamplayer;
- Eagerness to learn novel concepts and technologies;
- An excellent knowledge of English is a must (spoken and written);
- You feel comfortable in a startup environment and you can easily switch from one task to another;
- You appreciate working in an open space amongst enthusiastic, multidisciplinary and international colleagues;
- It is essential that you hold entitlement to work and live in Belgium. Our offices are located in Leuven (Belgium). Relocation to Belgium is needed.
