YOUR TASKS

  • At least 50% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in preparation of a doctoral dissertation.
  • You will assist in the teaching activities (Dutch language) at the department, specifically the courses of Historical archaeology and the material cultures practica, supplied from within the research unit.
  • You will carry out scientific research in the field of Medieval archaeology, with a view to obtaining a doctorate in archaeology.
  • You will participate in didactic projects of the Archaeology study programme.
  • You will assist in the internal and external services of the department, in particular of the Historical Archaeology research unit.
  • Along with the other members of the team you are responsible for maintenance and further development of the FLEPOSTORE reference collection and database.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a degree of Master in Archaeology or equivalent.
For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted. The degree requirements need to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.

  • You have a thorough knowledge of Medieval archaeology, in particular of the material culture and pottery and fabric analysis as is demonstrated by the Master's thesis and/or publications and reports.
  • You have an extensive archaeological fieldwork experience in both rural and urban contexts, preferably in NW-Europe.
  • Experience with GIS, databases and Digital Humanities applied in archaeology would be an advantage.
  • You have specific interest in research within the framework of a doctorate in Medieval archaeology.
  • You are interested in academic and/or projectbased research and services.
  • Any teaching experience or participation in extra training, conferences, etc. is recommended.
  • You have excellent teaching and communication skills, as well as the necessary flexibility and you function excellently within a team.

  • We offer you a twoyear appointment, which may be renewed twice for two years, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation

Attention:

If you have been previously appointed as a junior assistant or doctoral fellow at a university within the Flemish Community, this appointment will be deducted from the maximum term of appointment, which is six years at the most according to the Codex of Higher Education.


  • Your appointment will start on 13 May 2024 at the earliest.
