We are currently looking for a Chief Accountant for the Spacewell Group.

Job Overview


Due to a change in the team organization, we are looking for a motivated colleague to strengthen our finance team.

Your primary objective is to ensure financial integrity, transparency, and compliance within the organization.

You will lead a dedicated team, the focus is on maintaining accurate financial records, generating timely reports, and upholding compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

Through the implementation of robust internal controls, fostering budget management, and leveraging technology, the goal is to optimize financial performance.

While reporting to the CFO, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights, manage risks effectively, and contribute to strategic decision-making is a key aspect.


Through ethical conduct and leadership, the Chief Accountant plays a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health and success of the organization.


As the Chief Accountant, you will lead a dedicated team with the following key responsibilities:

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

  • Prepare accurate financial statements and accounting transactions following local GAAP and international standards (IFRS).
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures, coordinating audit procedures and participating in financial statement audits with external auditors.

Quality Control and Reporting:

  • Proactively perform preventive quality controls and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
  • Produce accounting reports and monthly/quarterly/yearly statistics, contributing to effective financial reporting for management.

Tax Compliance and Cooperation:

  • Cooperate with tax authorities and external tax advisors, taking up responsibilities for the calculation and reporting of all taxes.
  • Handle VAT declarations, Intrastat, Intracommunity listing, and other reportings, responding to National Bank of Belgium (NBB) inquiries.

Team Management and Professional Development:

  • Manage the team of direct reports, providing support and expertise to maintain a high professional level of the accounting team.
  • Ensure compliance with all accounting guidelines, translating IFRS guidelines to local processes.

International Collaboration and Intercompany Transactions:

  • Act as a liaison for intercompany accounting with finance teams in foreign operations (Netherlands, Sweden, India, and US).
  • Collaborate with external accountants, revisers, and commissionaires.

Monthly Closing and Reconciliations:

  • Execute monthly closing entries and reconciliations, addressing deferred and accrual accounts.
  • Prepare and maintain financial ledgers, including analytical and intercompany transactions.

Analysis, Budgeting, and Year-End Closing:

  • Conduct analysis and participate in budget preparation.
  • Prepare endofyear closing, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.

  • Great communication skills in English and Dutch
  • Experience in managing an international team of accountants
  • Working experience in international organizations across different time zones & fluent in English.
  • Proven track record in business controlling, planning and forecasting.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of local GAAP (Belgium) and IFRS.
  • The ability to collaborate with various stakeholders delivering the required output and insight.
  • Flexibility towards a changing climate. Calm and constructive approach with focus on prioritization, monitoring and control.
  • Meet internal and external demands while ensuring data quality and correctness.
  • Proactive mindset, identify opportunities/risks and anticipate changes.
