The European Brain Council (EBC) is looking for a Communications and Policy Officer to join our Communications, Advocacy and Policy Team, under the supervision of EBC's Head of Communications, Advocacy and Policy and Executive Director.


The European Brain Council (EBC) is a network of key players in the "Brain Area", with a membership encompassing scientific societies, patient organisations, professional societies and industry partners.

A non-profit organisation based in Brussels; its main mission is to promote brain research with the ultimate goal of improving the lives of the estimated 179 million Europeans living with brain conditions.

With the aim to speak with one voice, EBC stands as the platform to foster cooperation between its member organisations and other stakeholders, consistently promoting dialogue between scientists, industry and society.


The EBC Communications, Advocacy and Policy Team is in charge of all EBC communication channels (website, social media, digital and printed informative materials, etc.) as well as those of our projects, particularly the European Brain Research Area and the Brain Innovation Days.

The team plays a larger role in the preparation of EBC events, such as the abovementioned Brain Innovation Days, Brain Awareness Week and more.

Additionally, the team deals with all the policy issues relevant to the mission and objectives of EBC and ensures an adequate representation and recognition of EBC's interests.

The EBC Communications, Advocacy and Policy Team is in charge of the following tasks:

  • Monitoring policy developments impacting the fields of interest relevant to EBC, at EU, national and global levels, and identifying areas of action;
  • Recommending action and initiatives to the Board of EBC;
  • Representing EBC in key meetings, events and congresses;
  • Planning and implementing communications activities surrounding all EBC work;
  • Social media (mainly Twitter and LinkedIn) content and daily monitoring;
  • Websites upkeep for all EBCrelated websites currently: EBC and Brain Innovation Days;
  • Written content such as the monthly newsletter, weekly policy update ("Brainy Insights"), Annual Report, disease factsheets, news for the website, event reports, etc.;
  • Assisting in creation of social media graphics and basic audiovisual content;
  • Preparation of EBC and external events, including the Brain Innovation Days and policydriven events;
  • Brainstorming on innovative ways to improve EBC's visibility.
Responsibilities and Duties of a Communications and Policy Officer within EBC:

  • External Communications
  • Preparation of social media posts (including graphics and/or other accompanying audiovisual material) and other needed external communication for EBC projects, initiatives, events and other news.
  • Preparation of written material such as news pieces for the EBC website and visual project content like brochures, flyers, etc.
  • Shared duty of maintaining the EBC and Brain Innovation Days websites to be fully updated with all the latest information and news;
  • Sharing the lead in communication of EBC's part of communication/dissemination work packages in EUfunded projects.
  • Brain Innovation Days
  • Being part of the main Brain Innovation Days team, which entails programme building, communications plan setup and execution, etc.
  • Leading the production of the Brain Talks podcast series, which includes working with the podcast host to set up the podcast recording with identified speakers.
  • Congresses and other external events
  • Preparation and attending of external events, such as EBC Members Congresses, to represent EBC at an Exhibition Stand and other planned sessions.
  • Social media coverage and postevent news of meetings attended
  • Policy knowledge
  • Prior knowledge or experience in health policy at the EU level is strongly preferred as a lot of the communication done by EBC is advocacydriven and awareness raising also at the political level.
  • Together with our Senior Policy Officer, all members of the Communications, Advocacy and Policy Team are expected to monitor and keep up with relevant policy movements and be able to react/engage on behalf of EBC.

Qualifications:

Social media (focus on Twitter and LinkedIn), Wordpress and Microsoft Office proficiency is key.

Experience in the following platforms — or similar — is a plus:
Visme, Photoshop, Riverside, Adobe Premiere Pro, Mailchimp, Hootsuite.
