The Expertise Center Global Market Analysis (GMA) and the Business Platform Structuring & Origination (BP S&O) are looking for an experienced power market analyst.

He/she will be part of an extended team of market analysts, hydrologists, meteorologists and data scientists who sit on the trading floor.

He/She will report to the leader of the power & emissions analysis team.

YOUR contribution:

Context
GEMS is providing hedging solutions for renewable, thermal assets and downstream customers. Our objective is "to accelerate the energy transition through market solutions". Today, we are managing a wind and solar portfolio of 6 GW including 3.5 GW in Germany. The ambition now is to reach excellence on renewables energy management through systems, models and risk management expertise.


The power market analyst is contributing to risk management thanks to his/her in depth understanding of power market and his/her ability to develop market views.

Role

The Power Market Analyst will focus on the support to Engie North Western Europe portfolio management and the presentation of the team market views to different risk management committees and to the top management.

He will also be part of the BP S&O in charge of advising Engie Global Business Unit Thermal and Renewable for the risk management of their assets.

He/she will use internal tools and models to answer questions of portfolio managers, business developers and top management.

He/she will contribute to the valuation of different investment/origination files including renewable Power Purchase Agreement in collaboration with various teams of the BP S&O.


Key missions

  • Develop close relationship with portfolio managers and advise them based on the team market views,
  • Advice GEMS, Engie entities and top management about market evolution and the impact on asset valuation and risk management,
  • Contribute to the development of power supply/demand and machine learning models,
  • Work closely with meteorologists to assess renewable specific risks,
  • Collect data to develop and maintain long term scenarios of renewable production capacity in Europe and represent GEMS in Engie working groups about long term scenarios,
  • Liaise and coordinate with market analysis in all countries where GEMS is active,
  • Develop and maintain market data, analysis, recurrent reports and presentations

Travels
regular travels mainly in Europe

About YOU:

Hard skills
- in depth knowledge of power markets and renewable business,

  • Programming skills (Python and/or R), ability to use complex models,
  • Experience in trading environment and commodity markets

Soft skills

  • Strong analytical skills,
  • Clear and effective communication both written and verbal; ability to explain and convey messages about complex issues and models; ability to work in multicultural environment,
  • Promote team spirit and collaboration,
  • Reactivity, creativity, initiative, autonomy, ability to cope with tight deadlines, team spirit

Education and professional background

  • Master degree or PhD in relevant area (engineering, mathematics, physics, etc),
- min 3 years experience in power market analysis
