Context:

We are in search of a Biomass Market Analyst in V.I.E to support the growth of our Biomass Business by spearheading analytics and market analysis in this evolving niche market. The aim is to facilitate decision-making processes and enhance communication strategies.

Role:

  • Contribute to our energy market intelligence platform EnergyScan by providing insights and commentary on the Biomass market
  • Gather data and insights to develop and maintain a biomass supply/demand balance and forecasts for specific regions in collaboration with BP Biomass traders and EC GMA analysts
  • Create relevant graphs and price spreads essential for portfolio management decisions and commercial presentations, such as freight prices, US-EU spread, Dark/Spark spread vs 'Bark spread,' and fiber prices
  • Calculate breakeven prices based on production costs in key countries (US, Portugal, Vietnam, Baltic)
  • Conduct analysis and research on public support and subsidy schemes in the EU and Asia
  • Monitor regulatory developments in the Physical Biomass Market and their impact on market prices and product liquidity (e.g., RED II, EUDR)
  • Provide market analysis and insights into the Biofuel Market in Europe
  • Occasionally undertake ad hoc studies related to specific activities, especially during the ongoing launch of Biomass development/Commercial expansion for Industrial segments
Education and Professional Background:
  • Holder of a Master's degree or PhD in a relevant field (energy, economics, engineering, etc.)
  • Previous experience in the energy/commodity sector or a trading environment is advantageous
Soft Skills:
  • Essential: responsiveness, creativity, autonomy, teamwork, clear and efficient written and verbal communication, ability to work in a multicultural setting, and adeptness at meeting deadlines
  • Desirable: interest in energy, economics, and financial markets
Hard Skills:
  • Essential: strong analytical skills
  • Desirable: proficiency in programming (Python), familiarity with various IT tools
Languages:
  • Proficient in English
