The applicant will have:
A Bachelors degree in medical laboratory techniques, or equal by experience. Experience in working with cell culture models and conducting molecular/cellular biology techniques.Experience with handling and testing mice and conducting related biochemical assays.Experience with fluorescence microscopy is desirable but not a must.Experience with optical imaging is desirable but not a must.Experience in the field of nanomedicine is a plusExperience with molecular biology, viral vector technology is a plusIdeally, the applicant will have animal handling certificate (Felasa B).Applicants should be enthusiastic, dynamic, reliable and accurate, willing to incorporate previously learned techniques with new approaches.The applicant will be a good team player, who is willing to receive close guidance and who can also work independently.Should have a great sense of responsibility and good organisational skills.Applicants should be able to communication very well in English and preferably but not necessarily in Dutch.The domain of nanomedicine is receiving more and more attention and possesses an enormous potential for a plethora of pathological conditions, including cancer. One of the main advantages ofnanomaterials is the ability to combine multiple modalities into a singleplatform, because of which the nanomaterials can simultaneously be used for diagnostic and therapeutic applications, and multiple therapeutic options can be used at the same time. The major bottlenecks impeding the full exploitationof nanomaterials for biomedical purposes is the need for a higher level of selectivity in terms of targeted delivery of the nanomaterials to the site of interest along with the development of novel, alternative therapeutic options.These topics are the main focus of the research group.
Key responsibilities:
- Performing cell culture duties and preparing samples for microscopy and flow cytometry.
- The applicant will work with various mouse tumor models. This work will involve IV and subcutaneous injections, dissection of the mice and the processing of the various organs.
- The applicant will be willing to learn and carry out optical imaging experiments.
- The applicant will be responsible for the use of the imaging and flow cytometry equipment and will oversee its proper use, including some administrative tasks.
- The applicant will be responsible for providing practical support to collaborating research groups interested in using the above-mentioned equipment.
We offer a full term employment for 12 months, which, after positive evaluation, can be promoted into a permanent position. The position is linked to a grade 5 salary. We offer a training and development programme in an entry-level position in grade 4 for promising candidates who do not yet meet the required profile.
The applicant’s knowledge and experience will grow along with a multidisciplinary team at KU Leuven and there will be ample opportunities to learn from and interact with experienced researchers in various associated research domains.
The research group has grown nicely since its start in 2018, which is exemplary for the high level of the research performed and facilitates interaction with international key figures within the respective research domains.
