Je actualiseert door vooruit te kijken en in te spelen in op ontwikkelingen in de maatschappij;
Je hebt ervaring met het ontwerpen, tekenen van elektronische schema’s, het ontwikkelen en debuggen van hardware systemen op PCB en component niveau.
Je hebt ervaring met of grote interesse in het toepassen van IoT technologieën op hardware niveau (gebruik van development boards, microcontrollers, FPGA’s), op draadloos niveau (LoRaWAN, IEEE 802.15.4, NB-IoT, BLE…) en op software niveau (Cloud services, Docker…);
Je hebt ervaring met of grote interesse in het toepassen van AI op embedded systemen met Tensorflow en/of PyTorch;
Kennis van DevOps tools zoals Git, Docker, CI/CD, pipelining… is een pluspunt;
Binnen dit project zijn wij op zoek naar een gedreven doctoraatsstudent die tewerkgesteld zal worden op het project “Retrokit”. Het doel van dit project is om machines die nog niet industry 4.0-ready zijn op te waarderen met een extern systeem zodat real-time monitoring uitgevoerd kan worden. Het monitoren van deze machines is cruciaal om het vroegtijdig falen van componenten te kunnen detecteren. Hierdoor kunnen we onnodigestilstand of kwaliteitsproblemen van de machine vermijden. Het monitoren van machines vergt technische expertise van het systeem, moet kosten efficiënt zijn en heeft voor real-time interactie of feedback een zo klein mogelijke latency. Binnen dit project ontwikkel jij een hardware platform voor retrofitting om via een modulaire machine learning aanpak robuust, tijdig en accuraat aan edgecondition monitoring te doen. Je zal samenwerken met een post-doc onderzoeker uit KU Leuven die het modularmachine learning model verder ontwikkeld. Jouw opdracht bestaat eruit om een nieuw kosten-efficiënt hardware platform te ontwikkelen die toelaat om via verschillende sensoren data binnen te nemen, het modulaire machine learning model op de hardware (edge) uit te voeren en de informatie te aggregeren en communiceren met een algemeen systeem. De communicatie kan bekabeld of draadloos gebeuren.
Voor deze vacature zijn we op zoek naar een enthousiaste medewerker met ambities om op dit onderwerp te doctoreren. Je hebt een dynamische en proactieve houding ten opzichte van onderzoek en industrie.
Je bent als onderzoeker verbonden aan de onderzoeksgroep M-Group binnen KU Leuven en de onderzoeksgroep IoT & Data Driven Solutions binnen VIVES:
Je bouwt actief mee aan de technologische expertise binnen VIVES en KU Leuven;
Je treedt in interactie met bedrijven en detecteert hoealle aspecten vanIoTen retrofitting een rol kunnen spelen in hettegemoetkomenvan hun kennis- en innovatienoden;
Je volgt hedendaagse ontwikkelingen rond hardware design,(I)IoT, embedded AI en de bijhorende technologie op de voet op: literatuurstudie en trendwatching is een belangrijk onderdeel van jouw opdracht;
Je onderhoudt goede en tijdige feedback richting collega-onderzoekers en jouw projectcoördinator;
Je detecteert onderzoeks- en dienstverleningsopportuniteiten en deze mee helpen uitschrijven in projectaanvragen of offertes schrikt jou niet af
KU Leuven is een multi-campus kennisinstelling die zich toespitst in opleidingen van hoge kwaliteit en die hoogwaardig onderzoek uitvoeren in verscheidene domeinen. De onderzoeksgroep M-Groep (Mechtronica onderzoeksgroep) van de KU-Leuven is een multidisciplinaire onderzoekgroep bestaande uit een 8 professoren en meer dan 40 onderzoekers en is gesitueert op de Campus Brugge van de KU Leuven. De M-Groep voert onderzoek uit naar betrouwbare intergeconnecteerde systemen waar het nieuwe software en hardware ontwikkelt om systemen betrouwbaarder en duurzamer te maken. Meer specifiek, voert de M-Groep ook onderzoek uit naar sensoren en naar Edge Computing, meer bepaald naar hoe Artificiele Intelligentie kan uitgevoerd worden op beperkte ingebedde systemen. Deze vacature is een nauwe samenwerking met de VIVES Hogeschool, dat naast het voorzien van opleidingen ook praktijkgericht onderzoek en valorisatie. Binnen de onderzoeksgroep IoT en Data Driven Solutions valt het IoT-lab, een hoogtechnologisch labo die enerzijds onderzoek, dienstverlening als navorming uitvoert rond de topics IoT, edge AI, connectiviteit en netwerken, maar anderzijds ook de full-stack ontwikkeling van embedded systemen op hard- en software vlak uitvoert. Je krijgt een contract bij Hogeschool VIVES. Salarisschaal equivalent met het barema 502 voor master van het departement Onderwijs. Je wordt tewerkgesteld als contractueel bediende (via het sociaal secretariaat). Het betreft een voltijdse opdracht zo snel mogelijk te starten tot en met 31 augustus 2025. Verlenging is mogelijk na gunstige evaluatie. Je krijgt een laptop ter beschikking bij een opdracht vanaf 35%.-
