About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Designer Specialist Expertise Secondary Systems to join a leading organisation operating within the electricity transmission and energy infrastructure sector.

This position offers the chance to contribute to the development and maintenance of technical standards used within high-voltage transmission infrastructure, supporting the ongoing evolution of a reliable, sustainable, and future-focused electricity network.

Working within the Grid Expertise & Standards (Secondary Systems) function, you will play a key role in the design, review, and standardisation of protection, control, automation, and measurement systems used across critical grid infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and validate supplier technical drawings, designs, and standard documentation.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) when required.
  • Develop and maintain AutoCAD symbols based on approved supplier documentation.
  • Create, review, and update standard plans, protection block diagrams, and detailed principle schematics.
  • Ensure designs comply with established methodologies, concept requirements, engineering standards, and approved equipment specifications.
  • Manage workload effectively to meet project priorities and deliverables.
  • Maintain, improve, and adapt Excel-based engineering tools, including VBA/macros.
  • Design and develop additional tools to support engineering and operational activities when required.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Energy Technology, Electromechanics, Electronics, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • A solid understanding of electrical engineering principles.
  • The ability to read, interpret, and analyse electrical schematics.
  • Good working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Previous experience within a similar engineering or design environment.
  • Fluency in Dutch and/or French, together with a good command of English.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to take ownership of responsibilities.
  • An interest in emerging technologies and the future of the energy sector.
  • Flexibility to undertake occasional short-duration international travel for Factory Acceptance Tests.
