We are currently looking for a Finance Manager

who is ready to take Comate’s financial operations to the next level. Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for bringing financial clarity and operational rigour to a scale-up company? Then you might be the person we are looking for.

Your Role

This is a part-time role ( max 80%) that sits at the intersection of finance and operations. You will be a trusted business partner to our CEO and management team — close to the numbers, the projects and the people.

Your responsibilities are:

  • You take end-to-end responsibility for accounting, financial reporting and core financial processes, in close collaboration with a small internal team and our external accountant.
  • You prepare and monitor budgets, rolling forecasts and multi-year financial plans that keep management informed and aligned.
  • You analyse revenue, margins, cash flow and project profitability — translating numbers into actionable management insights.
  • You manage liquidity, working capital and financing structures to ensure Comate’s financial stability and flexibility.
  • You optimise financial processes within our project-driven organisation: time registration, cost tracking, invoicing and margin reporting.
  • You coordinate and support tax and VAT filings, ensuring that all deadlines and compliance requirements are met.
  • You ensure ongoing compliance with the applicable accounting standards (e.g. Belgian GAAP), tax regulations and reporting obligations.
  • You drive automation and standardisation of recurring financial tasks to free up capacity for higher-value analysis.
  • You document financial procedures and build a robust internal control framework suited to a scale-up organisation.
  • You actively participate in the management team as a business partner — bringing data-driven perspectives to the table to support strategic discussions and operational decisions.

What your bring:

  • You hold a Master’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Applied Economic Sciences or equivalent through experience.
  • You bring at least 10 years of relevant experience in a finance role of which 6 years in a fully-fledged management role (e.g. point of contact with banks, insurance brokers, …), with proven hands‑on responsibility for reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management.
  • You do have an experience with leading a small finance team.
  • You think strategically — you see the big picture and translate it into concrete financial actions and priorities.
  • Experience within a project-driven environment — such as engineering, consultancy, or technical services — is a requirement.
  • You have a strong knowledge of Belgian accounting, tax and VAT regulations.
  • You are fluent in Dutch, with strong working proficiency in English.
  • You are a natural business partner: proactive, constructive but direct when needed and confident in sharing views with the CEO, management team and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • You know how to bring structure without creating unnecessary bureaucracy — you thrive in dynamic, entrepreneurial environments.
  • You combine a hands-on mentality with strategic insight: you’re equally comfortable in the detail and at the management table.
  • You handle sensitive financial and business information with integrity and discretion.
  • A first experience within a private equity environment is a strong asset.
