The Associate Research Grade Production is a hands-on person who will work collaboratively on the production of mRNA and lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), covering mRNA production, lipid stock preparation, mRNA encapsulation, purification, concentration and characterization of the resulting formulations.

This position reports to the Manufacturing Manager and will be based in Niel, Belgium.

Job requirements

The Associate Research Grade Production’s duties shall include, but not be limited to:

• Primary responsibility will be to produce research grade mRNA-LNPs, including lipid stock preparation, mRNA encapsulation (e.g., microfluidic mixing), buffer exchange/purification, concentration and sterile filtration.
• Perform in-process and release characterization of LNP formulations (e.g., particle size and polydispersity by DLS, zeta potential, encapsulation efficiency and mRNA content by RiboGreen assay, pH and osmolality).
• Prepare, aliquot and store LNP batches under appropriate conditions and follow up on their stability.
• Execute new techniques/assays and support the optimization and scale-up of formulation processes. Work collaboratively with other departments (mRNA production, QC, Process Development) and/or project managers.
• Maintain appropriate files related to ongoing formulations. Write formulation protocols, batch records, analytical test methods and reports if necessary.
• Keep track of QC results of ongoing productions.
• Troubleshoot experimental techniques, analyze the data and report the experimental results.
• Participate in the maintenance, calibration and cleaning of formulation equipment and lab areas.
• Inventory management and ordering of lipids, consumables and laboratory supplies in close collaboration with the Supply Chain Coordinator.
