Plant Operations Officer

The LNG terminal in Zeebrugge is the gateway for LNG (liquefied natural gas) supplies to north-western Europe. LNG unloaded at the terminal can be resold for supply to the Belgian market, traded on the Zeebrugge Hub, or transported to other end‑user markets in all directions: the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, France and Southern Europe.

For the LNG Terminal in Zeebrugge, we are looking for a Plant Operations Officer (m/f/x).

Job purpose

As a Plant Operations Officer, you will share responsibility for the smooth operation of the LNG terminal in order to ensure the utilisation and availability of the facilities, the continuity of the production process, the security and safety of the facilities and personnel, and compliance with legislation and regulations.

Your responsibilities

• As a Plant Operations Officer, you and your colleague Plant Operations Officer will be responsible for managing, leading and coaching a team of around 36 people working in shifts, the team responsible 24/7 for the safe and efficient operation of the facilities and the safe and optimal running of loading and unloading operations for ships and lorries. You will therefore be responsible for all aspects of the operation of the LNG terminal, as well as the day-to-day coordination and supervision of tasks and operations
• You are responsible for coaching and ensuring that your (new) staff receive the correct training. You will draw up their training programme and oversee its effective roll‑out, working closely with the Support Operations department. In addition, you will pay ongoing attention to the further, structural development of your team. You will ensure that staff are given the necessary opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills, and you will be responsible for communicating and explaining matters relating to work organisation and shift planning
• In this role, you will also take on an important responsibility for coordinating staff deployment and operational organisation. Through careful planning and coordination, you will make a direct contribution to the continuity of operations at the LNG terminal.
• You will help to draw up the policies, procedures, safeguards and instructions for the Operations department and help to ensure that your staff comply with them. You will carry this out in close consultation with your colleague Plant Operations Officer, the Plant Operations Manager (to whom you report) and the Support Operations team
• You will be in close contact with both relevant internal departments (Commercial, Dispatching and ICT) to monitor the various LNG operations and associated internal IT systems, as well as with external stakeholders, including our customers (shippers and haulage companies), port authorities, shipping agents and shipping lines… to monitor technical and practical matters
• You will analyse the (production) processes and draw up proposals for improvement (taking into account safety, quality, environmental and legal requirements), which you will then help to develop and implement in collaboration with the project engineers and maintenance teams

About you

• A Master’s degree in Industrial Sciences or Engineering Sciences
• At least 3 years’ relevant work experience in a process, energy or industrial environment
• Strong leadership and communication skills that enable you to lead and motivate others and provide constructive feedback. You are able to communicate with colleagues, management and your staff alike. You are drawn to the operational and people-related aspects of team management. Ideally, you should have at least 3–5 years’ consistent experience in a managerial role
• Strong analytical skills and a critical mindset that enable you to manage projects and analyses from start to finish
• A sense of initiative and a healthy dose of autonomy, whereby you do not simply let things take their course but proactively take charge, and where you identify and develop opportunities for process optimisation
• Strong organisational skills, with a focus on the administrative side
• A flexible, resilient and assertive mindset that enables you to work effectively in demanding, often changing circumstances
• A particular focus on quality and safety
• An excellent command of Dutch and English and a good command of French
