About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Solution Architect / Lead Developer to drive digital transformation for a public-sector organisation.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role, combining solution architecture, software development, team leadership and production delivery. The successful candidate will own technical decisions, guide developers and ensure secure, scalable solutions are delivered successfully into production.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and maintain solution architecture across applications, integrations, data and security.
- Lead technical delivery, backlog refinement, estimations and technical risk management.
- Translate business requirements into actionable technical solutions.
- Mentor developers, conduct code reviews and resolve technical blockers.
- Establish engineering standards for Git, CI/CD, automated testing and release management.
- Collaborate with business, product, infrastructure and security stakeholders.
- Maintain architecture documentation, including Solution Architecture Documents (SADs), Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), diagrams and interface contracts.
- Identify and mitigate security, performance, scalability and operational risks.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in technical leadership, solution architecture or lead development.
- Proven experience delivering solutions from architecture and design through production deployment and operational handover.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Azure or an equivalent public cloud platform, including hybrid environments.
- Strong hands-on expertise in Java or Python; the ability to review and guide development in the other language is expected.
- Solid DevOps and CI/CD experience, including Git, automated testing, build pipelines and release management.
- Strong understanding of security by design, including identity and access management, secrets management, least privilege, encryption and data protection.
- Proven ability to lead and coach development teams while remaining directly involved in technical delivery.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
- Availability to work onsite in Brussels at least 3 days per week.
Nice to Have
- Azure certifications such as AZ-204 or AZ-305, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes or AKS.
- Infrastructure as Code experience with Bicep, OpenTofu or Terraform.
- Experience delivering solutions in Belgian public-sector or regulated environments.

We are seeking a hands-on architect and technical leader, not an advisory-only architect. Candidates must demonstrate personal ownership of technical decisions, development practices, CI/CD pipelines and successful production delivery.
